Re: Alternative cable damping solution
At one time, one manfucturers sells them in pairs for each speaker and when one of my friends tried it, we (the group of us) would do away with courtesy and simply call them 'testicles'. So we would be discussing how much those testicles contribute to the sound. My friend still has them testicles on his speakers. It seems they work though I never bothered to find out the technical reason for why they work.

Well, i'm not quite the audiophile. I'm musician first, then audiophile second. But the lines do get blurred because the equiptment does matter and the right equiptment gets you into the seoul of the music.

Landy,
firstly, wecome aboard.
Nice to know that you share what seems to be a male dominated hobby.
My wife, lovely as she is couldn't care what I was playing on my
system as long as there was sound coming out from the speakers.
She would'nt know the left channel from the right.
And I thought I was the only wannabe musician wannabe hifi geek on the forum.
Siiiiigh!
cheers & shalom

Re: Alternative cable damping solution
In the case of one of my ex-colleagues, it was his wife who was the audiophile. He would just want to listen to the music but the wife would actually be changing cables and tuning the position of the speakers, etc.
My wife incidentally, I do believe have good ears but of course she don't understand audiophile stuff. We both have some degree of training related to music, me more so than her. To her, it's all about whether the music is enjoyable or not, a more pragmatic approach.
Actually I think generally most women have good ears but they tend to be more music oriented than equipment oriented. Or another way to put it would be the enjoyment of the music is more important than the equipment. Remember the case of my friend who was taken up by the brand new Thiel CS5 to the extent that he was ignoring the sound ? I was really in a delima how to break the news to him but his wife saved the day by telling him that the more she listens to the speakers, the more she wants to slap somebody. Boy was that a funny incident for me. So a quick replacement with a pair of used Thiel CS7 speakers saved the day !
Nevertheless, welcome to our humble forum. Hope the reference to the tes**** wasn't too much of a shock to you.

Thank you Wong and Teleman and thank you all for the warm welcome!
Totally fine with the genetalia reference. Afterall, this is a male oriented forum and if a lady is to share a unisex latrine for instance, she is bound to face a few peek-a-boos!

Landy,
Me, I don't peek.
Old school guys don't need all that kind of thing.
Was brought up believing that the opposite sex is worth
respect and honor.
Good having you here Landy.

Re: Alternative cable damping solution
I have a lady audiophile friend not far(walking distant) from my listening room. She has always fascinated my audiophile friends(all male) whenever i brought them to her place for a listen.
She runs a 300b parallel set into large Klipsch speakers. Industrial power conditioning unit at one corner. Reflecting panels at 1st reflections. Tweaks here and there. Plenty of audiophile CDs. But she also enjoys the music. She is in her late 40's.
Btw she is just 1 of several lady audiophiles I have met in this life time.

I'd ever seen a veteran audiophile business woman ( age around 40+)accompanied by her non-audiophile husband ,seriously auditioning the Pro Ac Response D80 or D100 driven by all Naim top model equipments in CMY Sungai Wang, her husband just stood and waited aside patiently.
The 1st female audiophile I've ever seen.

My lady audiophile friend is an accountant by training and she is not married!!! (Guys don't even think). I met several lady audiophiles at the Umi Fujita singing in and their husbands were with them, quietly enjoying the live event and sipping drinks.
