Hifi ...a hobby or a drug? - Page 2 Empty Re: Hifi ...a hobby or a drug?

my hand when itchy i thought of buying a pair of ribbon tweeters & i did. replace them with the original tweeters that comes with the bookshelf.. the results.. astonishing!!.. listening to dave brubeck - take five was never the same. the ribbon tweeters really carves the mids & highs & i would suggest you guys to go & check it out if you ever stumble upon speakers that use them. i even bought & different set of xovers to match with this ribbon for my upcoming vintage + ribbon speakers project & hopefully it finishes soon. nope, this does not became an addiction to me as im just experimenting with sound & hopes that others will not follow my suggestions as it will certainly blow another hole into your pocket to grab a pair of speakers with ribbon tweeters.. cheers

Won't ribbon tweeters make your sound 'bright'?

If you associate ribbon tweeters with "bright" sound, then you ought to go and widen your hifi exposure then.

I did not. I merely made an enquiry.
A simple 'no' would be sufficient.

mr ct, bright or no bright are very subjective. to some its heck of improvement, to some merely an improvement or even naahhh its about the same! feedback. you know hifi, theres no firm decision that can covers all listeners & enthusiast. i've tried with brubeck & i like the sound, but mind you i have not try this one with foo fighters or my 'filth pig' ministry which can be over exposed! but im ok with that since im having more than a setup. im just tickling with hifi addict in here so they cant sleep at night thinking of more good revs for ribbon tweeters & knew speakers with ribbon tweets do not come cheap.. cheers buddy!

no ctboy, no brightness at all. it actually gives you the opposite. tames the brightness by a fair bit, easier on the ears. less fatigue on long hours and high volume listening.i got more air/space around instruments and vocals. wider soundstage, well maybe sacrificing a bit on pin point imaging but the end result was positive. this one i have to thank Loy for the pair of Linaeum tweets. he sold it for peanuts.cuba try. my budget bright sounding speakers are singing again.

azri and drife,
Thanks for the responses. The speakers that I am using now have soft dome tweeters, they're pretty much alright as I don't like 'bright' sound, they're very fatiguing. I am a 'bass head' and any move to improve the bass department will have my attention! Nonetheless, I may seek to see if ribbon tweeters may improve my listening pleasure. Have stuck with the current speakers(a transmission line floor stander) for a few years now, time to play with a new 'toy'.. Hifi ...a hobby or a drug? - Page 2 Icon_razz

Oh yeah, reminds me of someone having said, I just bought RMXXXX speaker cables. Haha

I want 8 subwoofers in my room. Repeat 1000 times and that shall be my mantra for ego tripping. Lol

The 'mother of all ego pursue' that I've come across was this la: "f u can't tell that my setup sounds very good, then u don't know how to listen la"!!!!! Hifi ...a hobby or a drug? - Page 2 Icon_lol I thought this tops it all!!!!!!

I was also on a ego trip once upon a time, but cool down alot, when I find that different persons listen differently and perceive sound differently too!!!! Hifi ...a hobby or a drug? - Page 2 Icon_smile A younger listener would say my setup sounded very very bright!!! To me it's just ok. And elderly listeners asked where has all the high hz gone to!!!! Hah, hah, hah!!! Hifi ...a hobby or a drug? - Page 2 Icon_lol

Bass contents was even a worse case scenario! Hifi ...a hobby or a drug? - Page 2 Icon_lol Sigh!
