AAVA module in the former model E-370 has paralleled the largest two units in “V to I” converters and in E-380 are four. Increased damping factor also play the role with low-sens domestic loudspeakers - DF of E-380 is 500.

THE SOUND.

Right out of the box, I can sense there is something special about this unit.

As it is a brand-new unit, I need to give it some time to ‘acclimate’ with the new environment.

So I keep the unit on for 24 hours non-stop playing various songs from pop to jazz to instrumental to classical.

You name it.

During the ‘break-in’ period, I notice it to be extremely detail and transparent, casting wide soundstage.

Due to the extra power it possesses, Accuphase grabs my Boenicke and never let it go (Esoteric barely holding the Boenicke together but still manage to caress it to give its best).

Initially I can sense a bit of sibilance on the upper treble which can be quite grating.

My daughter complaints that the sound is too ‘upfront’ and can be rather annoying (once she cried because the music was too loud as I love listening to high volume especially when I am in the kitchen).

This is due to the fact that it is so damn honest.

I admit that my digital fronts can sound ‘too digital’ especially when you crank up the volume (and with the wrong equipment).

The volume knob is so precise that just a slight turn will increase the loudness of the music which is good (I love the smoothness and the precision) but you need to be ‘economical’ about it (slow and steady).

One thing for sure, listening at low volume late at night does not change the nature of the sound.

It still preserves the essence and coherent of the songs.

Not like many other amplifiers when you turn down the volume, it loses the whole definition hence the enjoyment.

My wife said that it can sound too crowded as if the singer and the background music are competing with each other for space (she can’t feel the music penetrating into her soul).

In short, we feel that it is too ‘excited’ or maybe too ‘agitated’ (too aggressive maybe) trying to adapt to the new surroundings.

I let the unit continue to burn (it does feel warm on touch) and calm down.

After one week I notice a significant change in its tonality.

Everything settles down and finally it behaves accordingly.

To test this new ‘behaviour’, I use Spotify and put on some ‘rock kapak’ songs from the 90’s.

I ask my wife and my daughter for their input again.

They simply love it especially my wife.

My daughter said the instruments are so clear and beautifully rendered.

My wife just falls in love with the vocal and the way it integrates with the songs.

It sounds so balance (from all regions) and harmonious.

Never does Spotify (which is MP3) sounds so good.

Then I switch to WAV (CDs that has been burned into hard disk) and the same magic happens.

The details, the soundscape, the focus especially on the vocal, the honesty and the intimacy are so astounding.

There is a tinge of warmness but not to the point of being discoloured (like tubes).

Neutral will be the word.

Everything stays true to the elements of music (the percussion, the plucking of the strings, the sound of the piano keys being strike, the drumming).

No ajinomoto or MSG (as Uncle Roger always says) being added here.

When I take the Esoteric to the task, it just cannot compete with the Accuphase.

Before, I thought Esoteric will at least ‘compete’ with the Accuphase but now it falls flat on the ground.

Accuphase on the other hand tries to lay out everything so accurately inside the sound sphere that you can pick them out individually.

So vivid and lifelike.

In fact, seldom my wife will praise any gears but Accuphase (of course Boenicke) gets her approval (so much so that now she feels the Esoteric is a little bland).

5. In summary.

This is one of the best amplifiers to ever grace my living space.

Nothing short of astounding.

The sounds coming out of the Accuphase is so breathtaking that you want to keep on listening to belting out your favourite songs.

For the asking price of RM35K, it is a lot of money to burn but you will get to own a piece of superbly engineered equipment that will last a lifetime and at the same time enjoy the delightful, insightful and enticing sounds it creates.

I cannot emphasize how great this amplifier is.

I am not going to use the word ‘worth the price’ here but I could say this will be the last amplifier you ever need

From d pp to her minute tonal pitch to her fff. While fff ing.... the audience can feel her emotions and what she wants to convey - happiness, excitement, sorry, anger, surprised. 

The accuphase power regen gave me ALL THAT at my own home Macam concert feel.  

Cukup terror lah.  No wonder decades ago, me accuphase kakis say, the accuphase regen is the holy grail for all accuphase kakis. Only now, I Baru tahu.  POWER

Freaking accuphase can ROCK too. She is so quiet that I can finally turn this song up to deafening volume. 

PRAT is present too. She ain't one trick pony man. Rock, soprano, pop, vocal (with feel) Semua Boleh.

Usually in my limited years of playing stereo set, when Ada emotion and draw = warm n a bit muddy, lacks the whack in d lower region, dark,  minimum clarity, lacks air and separation. 

But this THING, the accuphase regen power unit...... Fu yoo.......complete transparency, full airyness, the whack at d bass = cukup shiok. And the fluidity Macam water fall. And no sticky mids.  Sound stage n depth = super duper lah. 

Bestest = with a neutral sounding system, now I can get to feel the emotion, draw and that feeling (感覺)

This is the granddaddy of them all.

The pinnacle of my visits.

Mr. Victor Pheh was gracious enough to have me in his showroom in Kota Kemuning.

When I entered the room, I was greeted by the golden hues of Accuphase looking so proudly on the rack and floor.

A pair of B&W 802 D3 speakers were standing beside the Accuphase.

Accuphase DC-1000 DAC, Accuphase C-2900 pre-amplifier and Accuphase P-7500 stereo power amplifier together with Pink Faun streamer were used in the demo session.

It took my breath away for the sheer intensity of the music.

Usually when I listen to music, it just caresses my body and soul like a breeze does but here, it gushes over my inner being like a perfect storm.

The music thundered and the bass slammed like tidal waves.

The experience left me wanting more.

Song after song just swept me away to nirvana.

You can feel the power charging through the air, shaking the molecules to its core.

I played music from “the wind that shakes the barley, Live version from Massey Hall, Toronto, ON” the ethereal hauntingly real melodies on the full stack of Accuphase system got the ‘approval’ from maestro himself, Mr Shigemasa Saito (Founder). Till today i can see he is still a music-lover..he enjoyed the entire curated-playlist which i had prepared for him.

Brief discussion with Mr Masaomi Suzuki(President) i found that he is an avid Apogee owner and fans too. Shared with him that I will be bringing in the all-new “newest & greatest” from Clarisys Audio Fullrange Ribbon Planar speakers. He was absolutely thrilled

Mr Takaya Inokuma (Director of Engineering) was impressed with the overall setup and room acoustics. I can see he is a person who strive for highest-tier of music reproduction. From my limited experience, i shared as many as i can.
