Hi Alvin,
Most important you didn't tell us your room size.
If small, why don't you go to take a listen Logictech Z5500?check out with user's review.

Hey All,

Just came back from KL, managed to shop CMY, Desa Home and Hifi Shop next to Desa home in lowyat...

i have tested the Wharfedale diamond 9.1, be honest ...i feel dissadpointed Sad ...hmm, i don feel good may be it doesn't have any base ...and i found i actually prefer sound with base ...then the seller, put in PolkAudio bookshelf speaker, and it is much better(can hear some base output) ....but compare to Mission from next shop(anyone know the name?) of Desa home, i think i prefer the mission speaker (e30)....the sound suit me (no sure is bcoz the song)....but it is about 1800RM ....Mission E32 even better and it cost around 2600RM ...damn .....Sad

I think i should plan for Floorstand speaker instead of bookshelf since the price are almost same ...guess i can get the good floorstand pair around 1500RM ?

and also, i think put in Sub is a MUST ....coz i love boom boom sound while watching movie even listen music feel much better....

My god, i think i should try to stop my interest .....wait until July for AV show for better deal ? at least i can save more now ....

Desa home tried with Cambrige intergrate amp and also Marantz 4002, If not mistaken Intergrate amp do not support subwoofer right ? when the seller tested with Marantz amp with polkAudio bookshelf speaker together with subwoofer(not sure how to spell, the name quite long and contain "van" or "vun" in the middle if not mistaken) ...

Desa home seller told me Pionner and yamaha amp mainly for movie and i should go for Marantz/Onkyo, not sure he got bluff me ....

i still haven't get the amp yet ......guess need to postpone the plan .....floorstand no good ? i thought it is better than bookshelf ....

one question, i went for many shop, ppl said mission speaker not good anymore , is that true ....i feel the bookshelf speaker are good.

alvin..yes integrated amp dont have subwoofer conection..marantz 4002 is AV amplifier thats y got subwoofer conection..

bookshelf/floorstand
if using integrated amp(music) with low watts,,to hear the bass recomendation used bookshelf
if using av amplifier(movie) with low watts,,to hear the bass--recomendation used bookshelf together with subwoofer

if ur room normal size n not to big,,bookshelf size is good
already..entry level amplifier usualy low watt n if u using floorstand
u cant get the good impact of the speaker..

Is nothing wrong about the mission speaker the speaker matching with amplifier is more important..

ok,1st step-if u insist new amplifier from ur budget i think only can
purchase entry level marantz, pioneer, onkyo(low watts) if not buy good
used amplifier with medium watts(80-100
2nd-purchase bookshelf speaker together with subwoofer
(ur living hall is quite normal size)
3rd-purchase suround together with center speaker
(if posible buy same model with front speaker to achieve same frequency
n good/balance sound) or if u have more budget used ur front
speaker(bookshelf) to be suround and buy new floorstand for u front

lastly--upgrade cable,filter and etc..etc..etc

this is my opinion

Just my 55cents :

Maybe you can get yourself a nice pair of Epos M5 like mine. It is an absolute ace thru the midband, but lacks bass. Add a sub and you should be on the right road to rich sounds.

Only concern is that the epos are 4ohm....

And then, get some epos m12.2 later, and throw the m5 round back as sats, or move them to a dedicated hifi system. Maan, there is just so much that can be done once you start on the right foot.... Smile

alvin, if not mistaken your budget was 2k, so u have another 1.3k which if enough for a pair of entry level bookshelf like wharfedale, mission, mordaunt-short etc. go n test yourself. normally people will recommend on what they are using.

    Alvin,
The MA bronze series, KEF Cresta and Mission (M range???) are all decent and they are available in both individual and complete sets. This of course means that you dont have to fork out a chunk of money at once, but can buy and upgrade slowly...

Fizi has put 2 smiley faces next to the MA BR2, and i agree Smile Its good bang for the buck, and looks better than KEF or Wharfs etc....You can upgrade the fronts to MA BR5 floorstanders later, and move the BR2s to the rear.

    Smile

hihi. just to clarify. the monitor audio ad was put up by me. its not the newer br2 but the older bronze b2 (3 years old). with 1.3k theres alot of suitable speaker u can buy. do your own audition before buying so that you wont regret.

i rather prefer not to buy my speakers based on those stats. I will bring my amp to test the speakers myself and judge it by my ears. My previous proac studio 125 with sensitivity of 88db doesnt sound louder than my current harbeth speakers which is only rated at 85db.

Make some adjustments to the speaker distance/time alignment, channel balance as well as the subwoofer crossover point. You should be almost there once these settings are properly calibrated. Smile

Where you bought the MS speaker, new or used?
I want to audition MS Mezzo, where could I refer it in Klang Valley?

Anyway your MS combo is good. You need good cable or go DIY cable like me, using CANARE DIY interconnect & supra DIY speaker cable?
If you have time make DIY cat 6 or cat 5 interconnect & speaker cable (use silver solder), very cheap & very good.

The most important is room treatment & position your equipment set in equal place.

jemmi, mind sharing the technique of making cat5 speaker cable? In due time I will need a lengthy cable for surround speakers. Need to cut cost. I already have silver solder and staff.
