The acoustic resonators are available in two versions and five models each. The home-based models use tall Maple wood bases and a loose tripod mounting for the bowls. The equivalent Pro models use Brazilian Rosewood cubes and captive mounts as shown in the last inset. The five different models are based on pure metals and proprietary alloys and simply called Copper, Silver, Gold (yellow gold), Gold Special (Red Gold) and Platinum.
The concept and technology break down into four areas:
• Use of high-density precious metals rather than big masses of foam or fiber glass panels to preserve space.
• No absortion of sound but conversion of the room's low frequencies into high frequencies to cancel unwanted resonances.
• A tool to fine-tune a room's harmonic response like the finest of musical instruments through the properties of precious metals.
• Lifetime performance without any potential for degradation and easy adaptation from one room to the next.
The acoustic resonators are small but powerful tools for room tuning, noise reduction and to minimize air turbulences. Our retailers and distributors in the hifi sector are trained in how to set up basic and more advanced resonator treatments. On the next page, we also provide starting instructions for standard rectangular rooms. Very small adjustments in how high or low the resonators are mounted and how their wings are turned relative to the listener can have surprisingly powerful effects on soundstage focus, virtual stage width and depth, bass clarity, treble extension and more. We encourage you to experiment. Please allow for the full effect to stabilize over 24 hours.
The special metal composition of the acoustic resonators creates different material densities. From this arise different damping properties.
The wooden stands are as vital to the properly tuned function of the resonators as a hollow cavity and bridge are to a stringed instrument.
The miniature wings on the bowls are directional and asymmetric in their attachment to offer large and small windows. The resonators attach to walls, furniture or fixtures in or out of sight with removable BluTack. Precise location and wing orientation provide unlimited tuning options to help defuse air compression zones and shift specific sonic aspects. But the resonators improve not only the sound. They also help to rebalance the energy flow, reduce the background noise and improve the serenity of an enclosed space. Resonators are used in yoga, meditation and wellness centers where no music is played but the goal is peacefulness and regeneration. Acoustic System Int. distributors and retailers are trained in how to set up basic and advanced resonator installations. For best results, we recommend a consultation with one of our trained agents.
The simple line drawings below lay out basic resonator positioning for rectangular hifi rooms. You can start with one resonator and work up to three; or you could find this technology so beneficial and potent (or have a very problematic room) to want more. Franck Tchang began his resonator studies and experiments in 1997 and applied for his first patent in 2002. The French patent office awarded N° FR 01 11625. In 2007, another patent concerning industrial use was applied for and patent N° 06 00831 and a European patent are on the way.
