Avia Powertrans User
Hello all hifi anthusiast,
There are 2 versions of the Avia powertrans in the market. One with a balance design and the other one without. Can anybody advise how to rectify if it is balance design or not. And why it behave so unusual: both live and neutral terminal has output if we test using test pen.
Thanks for your respond.

Re: Avia Powertrans User
Can you elaborate further about parallel design what has it to do with balance circuit. How big is yr powertrans capacity. TQ

Re: Avia Powertrans User
Behind the trans there is a switch for line filter. What is the function if switch off / on. And what is the -5V / normal selector for. Do you think it is really a regulator?

Re: Avia Powertrans User
The operating principle is plainly an appropriately sized isolating transformer and serves a few purposes of isolating, power surge protection, desired output voltage and a level of eliminiating noise from TNB mains. It may also be incorporated with built-in line filters. Its as simple as that and does contribute to improved sonic quality for hifi. But what is just as important is your home EARTHING. Better check and ensure its optimum and not rotted away for safety and other reasons. The gain of using one could be significantly benefitting than a wide array of little cable tweaks consisting of ferrite rings, XY rated caps, EMI eliminators and what have you all over the place. Of course there's AC regenerators which can be quite expensive gear.

The swicth is safety . this is current stabilizer regulator ..u know well TNB . All stabilizer have swicthes .
may i know do u know used this . how about current at urs home . if ok know need stabilizerlah.

Re: Avia Powertrans User
It may serve as isolator rather than a regulator. I dont think it is a regulator as the output variates according to current input although I set it to 230V, -5V. Believe or not, sometime the output gain is higher than input. Whatever it is, it does improve sonic performance.

Re: Avia Powertrans User
I use it on my ARC tube system. My current input is quite stable at 230V but after go thru 8kva powertran output is 240V. Anyway it does improve sound reproduction, especially lower frequency. Bass becomes punchy and tight. No drop in other frequency but soundstage improved. Its a good accessory.

Re: Avia Powertrans User
I am using a 2KVA Balanced Powertrans to power all of my equipments. A tube integrated, CDP, tube buffer and a DAC. I use the Powertrans to regulate the AC current input as the current is high at 255V most of the time. With the Powertrans, I am able to step down to +-235V now.

Wow!..255V is really high and IMHO, abnormal. I hope you made measurement with a decent accurate digital multitester? If thats true, you can request TNB to address the issue. I could say that voltage isn't ideal for your other domestic appliances either.
P.S. You can still call TNB to investigate the incoming voltage as they'll be sure to have measuring gear to ascertain the situation in front of you and inform you of due action later on. Don't worry, its part n parcel of their services to you if you're paying the bills to them.

Re: Avia Powertrans User
TNB can't or won't do jacks**t about this! Since 2008, i've been getting up to 265 at certain times. they've come and measured and scratched their heads, and said it was a sub-station and power provider thing. once called me up to say if damage to equipment, they would take a report to compensate.
So far, fridge, washing machine, PC, lights, etc, etc, all fine. One young technician said not to worry, home appliance will tolerate the range. Luckily, I got Soundstage for my AV, PurePower/AVIA balanced power trans for my hifi ...

i tested the furutech daytona earlier this year and its voltage meter read from a high of 254v to a low of 238v. i live in ss4, pj.
so 255v is perhaps ....normal.
Re: Avia Powertrans User
Wow.... that's really bad. My 'cowboy' town aint as bad. It is 238-246V at most. Normally hovers around 243-245V.
Re: Avia Powertrans User
my 235 -245 v. ...but sometimes my house corner lot the current not stable . the powertrans soft the problem and improve the sound .
