Bliss of a Piano Note : Audiophile Piano Package (Lot of 3) New. (SOLD)
The Following Items are Sold as a Lot (Individual Request are not valid).
From Jelly Roll Morton to Scott Joplin's Ragtime Classique-Blues, The Recital of Jazz Melodies on Solo Piano has become such a rarity,
with the absence of Olga Konkova's "Some Things From Home", Jaochim Kuhn through-out has dedicated his career fusing Classical and
Jazz Music ."Famous Melodies" as shown above showcases the immense talent of Kuhn's ability on such attempt which we would regard
as very listenable, if you are familiar with classical music, its like listening to Erik Satie play Duke Ellington,
serene and complex at the same time without sounding ultra-weird, produced by the legendary Walter Quintuss, this is one of the most
sought after hybrid albums, besides that of Jean Jacques Loussier found on the Telarc Label, and then theres Jack Gibbons who takes it from where it all started,a dedicated Gershwinian. The melodies on recital here are pitch perfect, with piano rolls so perfect, its just like
listening to George Gerwshin : have a glass or two of fine english sherry, and revisit the golden era of jazz piano
- Quinta Ruban
1.Jaochim Kuhn - Famous Melodies (Label Bleu - Made in France)
French Audiophile Power House, Label Bleu has made sure that the finesse of every note and rest in between timings is well recorded,
piano solos are tricky,as it shows off much flaws (if the recording or mastering chain has any glitches), besides the high quality audiophile sound, the Music itself is a joy, for a serious/casual listeners, theres something for everyone here with melodies
ranging from Kurt Weill's "Barbara Song", Cole Porter's "My Heart Belongs to Daddy,"Hamilton's "Cry Me a River",
Bloom and Gade's "Jealousy" and Singer Bobby Mcfferin's nouveau standard "Dont Worry, Be Happy" timeless classics recited on the solo piano, Water Quintus adds his golden touch in the studio.
2.Olga Konkova Trio - Somethings From Home (Candid Records - Made in England)
Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, and based in Oslo, Norway, Olga Konkova is an acoustic post-bop pianist/composer whose influences range from Herbie Hancock and John Lewis to Bill Evans, Chick Corea, and Keith Jarrett. Konkova, who favors a very clean and
crystalline style of pianism, is also comparable to Ahmad Jamal and the underrated Walter Norris. Like Norris, Konkova is known for taking major liberties with familiar melodies -- while other jazz musicians don't really start to improvise until after they play the
melody/theme (or "head," in jazz terminology), Konkova starts to seriously improvise the minute her fingers touch the keyboard. Consequently, she can make even the most familiar standards sound fresh, and this album is an evidence of her melancholic touch on the piano, this is the only recording here where the pianist is accompanied by a Trio which includes ace drummer Adam Nussbaum.
Choppy arrangements of Duke Ellington's "Take the A Train" and "Star Crossed Lovers" is a sure masterpiece, to be cherished
by those in the know.
3.Jack Gibbons - Plays Gershwin Vol.1 (ASV Records - Made in England)
Remarkable set of solo piano performances by Jack Gibbons. Gibbons has transcribed and reproduced virtually every example that exists
of George Gershwin's piano playing and arrangements for piano. The first CD covers Gershwin's work from the 1918-25 period including
first hit ("Swanee"), "Rhapsody In Blue" (adapted from a two-piano arrangement),
a large portion of "Concerto In F," some from the American Songbook (including "Lady Be Good," "Fascinating Rhythm"
and "The Man I Love") and other gems. Gibbons manages yo recreate not only the spirit of George Gershwin's music, but also his style
very closely. Highly recommended and continually fascinating disc.
