Cyrus - discussion thread
Hi all,
I've been reading some forums regarding the Cyrus 1 and 2.
These little amps created quite a stir during its heydays and became quite a legend. Even till these days they are much sought after.
I know these amps attract quite some interest in the "For Sale"
section. They are sold off quite soon after they are put up for sale.
I own a Cyrus 1 (from 1984) and it was relieved of its duty for the past 15 years.
However last year I decided to put it back into service. During the past year I have been listening to it again on a second set of speakers. It has performed quite admirably against my more expensive amp.
Many of these amps need some capacitors change to bring them back to life again to relive their glory days.
I believe many owners of these amps around the world, including here in Malaysia, have changed or even modified these amps.
I have changed come caps myself but have always wondered if I could do more to further improve the performance of these little amps.
It would be great if owners of these amps get together to discuss the mods they have done.
Cheers!

Re: Cyrus - discussion thread
I owned Cyrus 3 for a few years and the amp is still with me. Unfortunately the amp is not in a working condition suspect of some internal circuits breakdown. I do not know where to get its original parts apart from Cyrus UK but it will costs quite a bit to order from them.

Re: Cyrus - discussion thread
Cyrus 3 parts are more difficult to source here in Malaysia.
Cyrus 1 & 2 part are more basic. They are easier to repair, from what I gather from Mr. Oh.
Why not send the C3 to Mr Oh to see if he can help.

Re: Cyrus - discussion thread
Hi SPH,
I was an ex owner of a Cyrus 1 and 2 units of Cyrus 2. They were my experimental amplifiers. Quite a lot of modifications can be performed on them; but nevertheless there is always a limit as to how much improvements can be gained.
Like you mentioned on the cap change, other mods that can bring improvements include diode change (use fast soft recovery types), volume pot change to Alps Blue (cost effective upgrade), capacitor bypass on the main capacitor (that means adding parallel 4.7uf 100V plastic caps), changing the ribbon wire link to pure silver and perhaps increasing the biasing a little - make it run hotter.
cheers.
