Hai all members & Sifu's..
Can anyone explain to me WHAT & HOW is Buffer use for?
Are Buffer functioning same with DAC?
Thanks & Regards,

Re: Differences between Buffer & DAC
Pokcek,
DAC is a digital to analogue converter. It takes the digital signal from your digital source eg CD, MD, iPod etc, and converts it to analogue sound so that it is audible to the human ears.
A buffer is a device 'converts' your solod state pre amp into a tube pre amp. It does not alter the digital signal and can be used with all sources with RCA output. It usually adds some warmth to a harsh sounding system.

Re: Differences between Buffer & DAC
Thanks for your reply brother..
I do have another question..I'm using intergrated amplifier which already connected with DAC..Can i use a Buffer with it? & how to connect buffer with my intergrated amp?
Regards,
pokcek

Re: Differences between Buffer & DAC
Yes you can... But u have to answer the question of WHAT FOR? Its usually used to have a different sound signature.
I used to have one and used it between CD player and amp to inject warmth and that tube like presentatin. If u want to experiment a buffer, u can connect a buffer between dac and amp.

Re: Differences between Buffer & DAC
Tube like more to voice & maybe music sound stage will get less bass. I prefer balance between music &s voice.

Re: Differences between Buffer & DAC
pokcek,
a dac is a digital to analogue converter. all cd players hv dac inside. sometimes people prefer to use an external dac.
a buffer is actually an amp that has unity gain i.e. it merely boosts the signal to prevent signal loss. this is normally used for long runs of cables.
some people prefer to use a buffer amp between a cd player/dac's output to the preamp/int amp. actually this is not necessary since the interconnect is mostly only 1 metre long and the output of most cd players/dac is around 2v, which is good enough.
but some people say despite the short distance, the buffer improves the sound.
some people use a tube buffer to inject some tube warmth to the sound.
i hv used a buffer before - a musical fidelity tube buffer - and it improved the sound of a passive pre. it was connected this way - cd player to buffer to passive pre to power amp.

Re: Differences between Buffer & DAC
Thanks bro for telling a detail of buffer usage & what the exactly for.I just want to know but i dont think that i will use one for now.Probably in the future to come.
