Speakers for the NAD 3020 integrated amp
Seek views from experts;
Which Book shelf speakers would match a NAD 3020 Amp ?
My preference would be a KEF Coda 7 !
Views appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Sonyman...
Agreed, its what rings in your ear that matters most.
Have heared the KEF Coda 7 (10-70Watts) and Mission (100watts) ( both are used ) and the KEF sounded much punchier than the
Mission. That's why I am looking at the KEF speakers.
Want to read the views from experienced forummers before i run out and get the speakers.
Want to make the informed decision.
Regards

Nope, still have not decided yet.
My views may sound one sided but it was a single comparison. At least, I have a baseline to compare. That's the KEF, for now.
Getting input would be good and if it weighs towards one make, then will compare or source for the paticular unit.
Cheers

Re: Speakers for the NAD 3020 integrated amp
Heard the Coda 7 sometime back. They sound congested and colored. Not really serious speakers (as evident in emphasis on cosmetics )in my opinion and the first and the last time KEF ever bothered with mass market appeal, therefore the simple and fragile construction. KEF then removed the range and replaced them with the Cresta Range, these more robust and traditional looking speakers as bottom of their range albeit pricier than the Codas they replace.
Yes I've heard the 3020 driving Cresta 2s at a friend's house using solid stands. Front end was Arcam CD player, think it was an old model too. Well set up, I remembered enjoying the sound as we listen to at least 2 full jazz cds, not bothered at all about he equipment.
Cheers

Hi Wan....
Thanks for your views.
Yes, they have replaced the Coda series, auditioned the Coda 7, sounded great and they were book shelf. That's was the reason I was hunting for a used Coda 7. Tried a few other makes and nothing sounded to my liking.
Lucky or unlucky, never got my hands on a Coda 7.
Until, I auditioned the Wharfedale diamond 9.2 with my NAD 3020 / NAD 502 CD Player and it was a perfect match. All these was done at the Audio shop.
It 's even better after the mellowing process.
No regrets.
Selamat Hari Raya.

Hi Alex....
Yes, indeed.
Auditioned the newer KEF bookshelf at Tong Lee and a few other Audio Shop's around KL. Sounded lovely but the Wharfedale Diamond somewhat beat the KEF to my EARS.
And that's history.
Cheers

Re: Speakers for the NAD 3020 integrated amp
I've added a an old sansui equilizer on top of my NAD 2030 and runnig with Yamaha speakers. it allows you to brighten up the sound a little. I'm Still trying to look for a pair of good and cheap speakers to go go with it.

Re: Speakers for the NAD 3020 integrated amp
hi san....
Is this setup your primary or secondary? What have you connected to this AMP ?
That's an option i overlooked. Thanks.
Another option is to change the "CAPS". (planning stage)
Read an article from the WEB detailing the upgrade path that can be done on the NAD 3020.
But would do this in stages until I acheive the output that's soothing to my ears.
Cheers

Hi,
This amp is my primary. I'm still new to the hi fi hobby. I use an old LG dvd (sue for cd only) player > Sunsui Eq > Nad 3020 and Yamaha speakers.
As for changing the capacitors what will it do?
Thanks
Cheers

Re: Speakers for the NAD 3020 integrated amp
hi San....
Well you are not alone, I am a greenhorn as well. But I was specifically looking out for a NAD 3020, manage to get one in mint and original condition without any repairs or modifications.
It's all got to do with the output quality of the sound, tighter and cleaner.
The article describes a few area's of the AMP where the existing components can be upgraded, the power section, the pre-amp, power amp circuits section and the transistors at the output end.
Trying to get the circuit diagram from the "modder" and the components values as well.
Take it slow and savour every moment.
cheers

Re: Speakers for the NAD 3020 integrated amp
hi jareth....
Thanks for the input.
any idea whats the going rate of the speakers ?
Am looking at a second set of speakers as my "trial unit", so this would be an option.
Seen some good used speakers for sale in AMCorp mall - Castle, Mission and countless other makes.
Cheers
