Emerald Physics DAC 1 and 2 (New) Empty Emerald Physics DAC 1 and 2 (New)

Emerald Physics DAC 1 and 2 (New) 7476576_orig
The new Emerald Physics DAC 1 and DAC2 are highly transparent yet minimalist design 24-bit USB DACs that deliver 100% transparent performance into any audiophile gears. DAC 1 and DAC 2 uses the highly acclaimed ESS Sabre DAC which is very musical and has respectably low jitter.

What matter most is the DACs are precisely engineered and manufactured in close to ESS datasheet which yields the DNR at -112dB A Weighted. Normally, DACs at this noise floor could only be found at the pricetag of RM3000 or beyond. Blind listening tests have confidently verified that the Emerald Physics DAC 1 and DAC 2 could easily dust off big brand DACs that are 2 or 3 times its direct sale price. Noticeably the DACs will make your old CDs sound like new, more revealing and give you rock solid lower end.

The USB interface is powered by Tenor which is also a very popular USB interface used in other commercial 24 bit USB DACs. The DACs are USB powered and outputs a standard 2 volts which is a perfect solution to any desktop application. The DAC’s small footprint eliminates unnecessary signal lost with short circuit path. Furthermore, they utilize split digital and analog power supplies with dedicated filtering and regulator for your uncompromised listening pleasure.

You can’t be too prickly at this price.

Emerald Physics DAC 1 and 2 (New) Empty DAC Chip

Post by fx20 Tue Oct 29, 2013 10:19 pm

The DACs are based on the ESS9023 chip. One of the most popular DAC from Peachtree uses 9023 as well. It states

"The 9023 Sabre chip from ESS Technology is a testament of trickle down technology. It delivers a lion’s share of the performance of their top-of-the-line 9018 chip for a fraction of the price. Its patented Hyperstream jitter elimination key why 9023 sound so good"---Peachtree DAC.IT

However, the SQ of DACs cannot be determined by the chip alone. High quality DACs require skillful engineering plus precise manufacturing. ESS9018 may look promising on the fact sheet but the chip far more difficult to built into an end product because it involves the proper use of other component: inductors, capacitors, resistor, regulated power etc. The real advantage of 9018 is for multi-channel like bluray, SACD etc

Unlike other DIYs kit, both DACs from Emerald Physics are high quality DAC which are designed and built in a strictly controlled facility in USA. The SQ can be evaluated through instruments and blind test.

I did compare it with Buffalo 3 briefly. Two notable differences are EP DACs are louder and have more bass.

Bought DAC 2 few months back. Upgrade from Audio GD NFB 12.1 which I found the NFB bit harsh on sound. The DAC 2? For that price yes I'm happy with it.

"Importantly, whatever the resolution, the DAC 2 took nothing away from a good recording, its resolving capabilities and attention to nuances making for a captivating and immersive listening experience." [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on EP DAC2.

What should a perfect DAC does, converting digital bits (digital) into a the original wave form (analog).

What does DAC2 does? Convert bits to original wave form.

What does those RM5,000-20,000 dacs do? Convert bits to original wave form.

You know the math.
