Studio speakers versus domestic speakers - you tube

Guys, try to watch this video, in the first half he mentions an interesting statement that describes the difference between studio and domestic speakers. Don't have to believe the guy but he comes from 'the other side' - meaning the music producers. Whereas we come from the listener side.

If you have the time, read the comments below esp. by Oneness 100 about the banks of B&W speakers and Eggleston at big league studios. Its been said in a number of blogs that movie soundtracks are vastly superior to music soundtracks because they employ people (and pay them much better) who really care for the sound, not the slam bang, 'one take' music engineers. I believe that because the music on movie soundtracks sound much better than from a CD made by the music engineer.

Hi Samazzah, thanks for the link. There's always something new to learn. I do agree that soundtracks indeed sound better than commercial recordings. My main collection consists of soundtracks running into 10000 songs. Mostly bad due to low tech and musically hopeless but some good ones are really good high quality recording with realistic stereo width and good share of acoustics instruments.

Come to ordinary CDs, generally, I think Linn recordings are fabulous. Some unknown albums like Gal Gosta - Plural 1990 BMG/RCA is really a well recorded gem. Perfect stereo and ambiance. Tracy Chapman was a let down. Patricia Barber - Cafe Blue is another great recording for ambiance though i think the overall resolution is not that great.
