10Y / 801a line preamplifier

This is my 2014 project. A 10Y/ 801a preamp kit from Thomas Mayer ( Vinylsavor ).

Wow! Very nice. I guess you would be busy doing DIY over the holidays? 

I would look forward to an opportunity to listen your new pre-amps when it is completed. It would be an interesting comparison between your 71, 26 and 10Y/801a.

Hoi,

It will take a while for me to complete this 10Y preamp, as I still have 2 more preamp( 12a/101d & 26 ) to be completed.
Just built up my new 12a preamp. Do come over and listen to this optimized version.

Hi!

DHT tubes are always subject to micro phonic, so we need to minimized it. This preamp is equipped with tube damper plates to solved the problem.




Get damper plate fixed on to the signal section's top plate. As you can see they are top class!

i wonder if the 801A integrated amplifier will be completed sooner than yours?

i'm working with my friend, WJ, on a 5687 - 6bx7 - 801A class A2 SET at the moment. just finished the chassis drilling today.

Hi ! Ihgin,

Building equipment is not judged by how fast you can complete it. Since I am not into any of the Hifi business, I prefer to do my DIY slowly and enjoy the process through out.    

Why not building a 801a power amp with another 801a as driver? 

For me, I guess something lesser than 300B SET would be hard to push my speaker to its limit although they have a sensitivity of 99db.

not competing, just a comment la... :)i do admire your workmanship very much!

the user has budget constraint bro! budget constraint with everything asking for up up up nowadays.

801a drive 801a will require good step-up interstage and good insterstage tranny will be very expensive, not to mention input tranny is required too to get sufficient gain out of the system. getting the lundahl as power OPT is already giving him a headache.

i used to have tannoy HDP385 15 incher and was driving it with 300b SET. can rock but sometimes do feel the pain of not having enough juice, like what you mentioned.

Some progress !

The signal section have been populated with oil caps and tube sockets. All oil caps are being matched in terms of value and outer foil before install.



2 filament chokes , 2 plate chokes and 2 line output transformers are placed under the top plate.

I have just power up my 10y preamp!



Complete PSU with 2 individual DC filament supply. It's employ LCL passive filament filtering. As usual, LCLCL for B+
