hello 15ohm, I myself also from Kuching. Why not you try to go to Far East Electronic (Peter) near the Satok Flyover, (The 2nd of the 2 Row of shop house
below the Flyover. What I know, he use mostly Malaysian Made.
If you want imported one, you ring Mr Edmund Jude 0122174777 (Subang Jaya) WTB: Kiwame or other resistors Icon_cool

Hai Antaklugom

I prefer imported one. Especially resistors. One solder, very troublesome to upgrade again. Anyway i will try Edmund. anymore recommendation?

Many thanks,

Wan.

rogers15ohm, take a read at this for your info.

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/tubes-valves/116634-kiwame-resistors.html

I think Octave may still have them but not cheap, recalling frin the last time I found out. They're quite suitable for tube amps. Of course there's another alternative like Riken Ohm and their premium ones are with gold plated leads. I think these are getting rare and discontinued. Kiwame are plainly power resistors suited for high voltages found in tube amps, unlike the normal 1/4 to 1/2 watt types commonly found in solid state are safe up to 100Volts. Its not that the resistor cannot stand more than 100volts but the insulation material that won't insulate high voltages properly and can possibly shock someone touching it accidently.

cmboy.

My project is diy phono valve pre amp. Kiwame offer a 2w. That is just nice. I do fancy some other types but,, where can we get in Malaysia? no operation in Octave now.

Those i call either service, or selling china resistors.

Perhaps you could try buying from here?

http://www.ahfartaudio.com/components/resistors.html

BTW, have you built this project before? If you haven't and don't know what to expect, better you try with Pasar Rd 10 sen resistors first, then when everything works out flawlessly, replace them carefully with your preferred parts. Its not wise to use pricy parts for project experiment, unless you know exactly what you're doing and its going to work flawlessly from the moment you power it up. 2 sen from me.

P.S. I've built pre-amps before and personally prefer a mixture of metal film and carbon resistors here n there. I try to achieve lowest noise, hiss or interference noises over anything else in a phono pre-amp. However, there's pros and cons in the selection of components and it may take time to achieve your expectations. Pre-amps (line level signal) are more difficult to get it right than power amplifiers. Hope you know that already.

not always highest quality component will get highest quality sound. especially in preamp. the circuit design is very important and one must know what he is doing in order to get the desire results..
it is not as easy as "copy" a circuit, get the first class component
will give you first class sound. it won't, unless u know how to tune it.

OKie. thanks so much for the advice!!! But for my opinion, spending say rm5 each resistors for 40 of them= RM200 to get rid of suspicious whether your diy misperform due to it is worth while. Further more, I think tube rolling cost far greater then that. I also understand caps also don't cost cheap cost but those surely wont over the numbers in resistors that infuture hussle you to remove, and resolder for upgrades. Thanks again, especially for the afart!!

roger15ohm,
Most Transistors are now manufactured in China with advanced
Technology. Unless you are searcing for say, nichicon Caps then it is still manufactured in Japan but most Items are now manufactured Outside their
Country of Origin (Under Licence) and are same quality or even better due to
more advanced Technology..
You are making a Phono stage Pre Amp, and according to some of
my DIY Friends 10/10 will fail unless you really make correct Calculation according to Specs as what was on the Circuit Plans.
So like what the rest said, you can use some part manufactured
by other manufacturer but having the same Ohms / microfarad (caps) values. WTB: Kiwame or other resistors Suspect

Antaklugom,

I am not sure your diy friends is refering to hard solder, using other schematic as reference, or modded, even self design. My diy is soldering only and sourcing parts. Or maybe there just need someone to break the rules.

But it is a kit set I bought. 1/2 kit = only the board itself to cut cost on delivery. This kit was in their market for more then 5 years. Along the time they improve to cather end user request.

Don't worry, I'd a guru to back up, and if i fail i will complaint to the forum. When it is done, you are well come for audition my cheap rugged and el cheapo setup. WTB: Kiwame or other resistors Icon_biggrin It wouldn't be that fast because the board is only sent out days ago.

Cheers!!

Wan.

Anyway thanks for the info regarding manufacturing thing. I hope my faourite M-cap, V-cap, and Jensen is genuine. That is all.

Oh, thanks, sure I would like to listen also.......BTW, which part of Kuching are you located ? I came across one shop in 3rd Mile Bazaar selling Tons
and Tons of Vintage LPs (mostly Chinese songs) and many Vintage Amps and Turntable......But the price he quoted is not cheap...... WTB: Kiwame or other resistors Icon_biggrin WTB: Kiwame or other resistors Icon_biggrin WTB: Kiwame or other resistors Icon_biggrin

Hahaha. You buy any Lps from him? 2 years ago i bought a total junk tt from him and that is the one i am using now, Lenco 75. I bought a Thoren 150 too from him. The rest i don't see any potential of upgrades, even until now.

I am in the process of moving back at Everbrigh Park. Now at B.kawa. So I'd just dismental my hifi hours ago. If the invitation from me is earlier then you will able to meet Dr Brian (from Timbleland) last nite trying his EAR834p on my set up and my new opened Chai ching from ABC recording, sorry. PM me your contact please and nice to meet you.

Best regards,
