Bought 2 Mobile Fidelity titles Santana's 1st and Abraxas a year ago for S$55 (RM135) each from Simply Music. As my brother bought them for me, I don't really know the general pricing for new and used lps. I may check out these stores if time permits when I'm in S'pore next week.

Santana Abraxas ah.. I assume its a re-issue and now wonder how it stacks up against the original release and Mofi gold CD of the same album. The early Mobile Fidelity issue is certainly something so worth.

oh, SG is much cheaperer than KL .... even after conversion + GST.

Bought some Nirvana LPs (new ones) from one of those shops in Adelphi lately ... damn good. Overall, LP sounds better than the CDs including the MoFi Ultradisc II versions but not in all areas.

Comparison notes (on my own system) :
Absolute dynamics, CD wins.
Tonal balance, presence, 3D holography, etc etc, & everything else, LP wins.

Some of the LP are absurdly priced in MY compared to SG or purchasing it over the WEB.

I just purchased an LP - "Best of Bob Marley" at half the price (even lower than half and its the same pressing ) compared to whats been sold in MY. The best thing its used LP and its in "mint" condition.

cheers

I've been to those few LP shops in Adelphi (can't recall the names) but got the impression that generally their used LPs are not any cheaper than say in Amcorp Mall.
Ended up buying brand new and reissued audiophile titles instead which are cheaper THAN in KL.

btw, I personally think the used LP pricing nowadays are mostly unacceptable.
One dealer in Amcorp Mall asked for regular used Bob Marley's Rastaman Vibration RM 140 ... come on!.

actually managed to pick up a vintage copy of Paul Simon's Ryhmin' Simon album from that messy shop at Adelphi for around SGD12.

And the price of new LPs from New Disc Village or Roxy disc house (both also at Adelphi) from SGD30~50 is quite comparable to Amazon.com prices. Whereas there are some local cut-throats who are selling the same damn thing here in MY for RM180 or something ridiculous like that.

Just IMO, but the upper limit that I would pay for a used LP in a mint or near-mint condition would be from that Rama (Bluesman) guy at Amcorp, and this perhaps only once in the bluest of blue moons.

MY seller got their point to stick the price...at least in MY we still can enjoy RM3 for a bowl of noodles...if we bring RM3 to SG what can we enjoy there.. Vinyl in S'pore Icon_cool

i think you misunderstand. LP prices in SG is similar to US prices, even when everything is converted to RM.
So buying in SG or from US is the same. Actually SG would be slightly cheaper if hand-carry back, because if buy from US, got to pay postage.

Its buying from local sellers that is overly marked up and too expensive.

Sometimes it depend on yer luck too.
I occasionally do get good deals from those rip off Randys as well, mostly due to the titles they are unfamiliar with. That's what I call star buy but it doesn't happen alot.
There are one or two stalls in Amcorp which I would gladly pass by without even glancing ... they should know why but they still get by since there are enough rich old boys around.
Fairground Attractions' "The first of million kisses" (had and lost it) is one of my fav. albums but RM 140 for a used copy ... no thanks!.

I love LPs to bits but not sure if investment in questionable used copies is a bright idea considering the recent vinyl revival phenomenon has resonated to the record labels.

just came back from HK last Thursday. Arrived there on monday, bought 4 new LP from HongKong Record Co. price is very resonable compared to Aldelphi, Rickie Lee Jones (HK$ 175), Jacky Chung latest Jazz LP(HK$255), Another Taiwan Chinese Title LP (HK$165) and Micheal Buble -cracy love (HK$175).

Went to Apliu Street on Wednesday, Bought another 35 pieces of 2nd hand LP mostly 70's - early 90's edition , price is damn cheap. good condition late 80' and 90's LP cost only HK$20-25 each and those so-so amcorp condition cost only HK$10. after bargain with the LP seller, I paid HK$370 for all my 35 LP.
