The Planar 6 is the newest addition to Rega's superb Planar series, built with one goal in mind: reproducing your vinyl albums as accurately as possible. Every aspect of the Planar 6 has been engineered to extract as much detail from the vinyl surface as possible. Using advanced materials and engineering solutions throughout the design procedure, this turntable boasts the greatest level of performance that can possibly be achieved at this spec level. A Neo PSU has been included here, offering electronic speed change, advanced anti-vibration control and user adjustable electronic fine speed adjustments that were only previously found in the Rega RP10.
Built around the huge success of the Rega RP8, the Rega Planar 6 Turntable is the first of its kind, as it has been constructed using an ultra-lightweight foam core plinth. This material has then been sandwiched between a new high pressure laminate which proves exceptionally thin whilst remaining rigid. The turntable is then presented in a beautiful matte Polaris grey finish with a high gloss polymer, black edge trim. This turntable benefits from a single piece, machined aluminium sub-platter and custom drive pulley fitted with Rega's upgrade drive belt as standard.
The Neo PSU in the Rega Planar 6 Turntable uses the RP10 DSP (Digital Signal Processing) generator that has been built upon a high stability crystal. The DSP generator divides the accurate signal from the crystal to the exact frequency required to turn the player at the selected speed. It will also produce a near perfect sinusoidal waveform to drive the motor. This, along with an efficient drive amplifier, will generate a 24V AC balanced signal of less than 0/15% distortion. This balanced signal is completely unaffected by any changed that may occur in the mains/line voltage and conditions. The Planar 6's anti-vibration circuit, located beneath the turntable, is then driven as a result.
The Rega Planar 6 Turntable features the RB330 tonearm as standard. The RB330 has been designed using the latest 3D CAD & CAM technology, culminating more than 35 years of tonearm design experience. A brand bearing housing and the latest tonearm tube - designed using intelligent redistribution of mass - ensure that the RB330 tonearm will exhibit fewer points of possible resonance. The RB330's extreme stability delivers almost-friction-free movement thanks to the new high-precision bearing assemblies, guaranteeing it will gather as much information from your vinyl records as is currently possible. The new bias assembly has been redesigned to offer a stiffer vertical bearing housing, an integrated arm clip and improved spring housing that offers easier to read numbers.
This version of the Rega Planar 6 comes fitted with the Rega Exact Moving Magnet cartridge.
The Rega Exact shares the same body moulding as the rest of the Rega cartridge line. This is a one piece body and has no energy sapping joints between the stylus mounting and head shell contact face. The Rega Exact has a highly expensive non removable cantilever, fitted with a "Vital" diamond tip. The head shell face is machined perfectly flat to ensure maximum contact between the cartridge and head shell. Rega has designed and developed its own coil winding machine leading the way to new and innovative techniques in coil winding. Approximately one third less wire is used than in our other cartridges, making the Exact even more efficient than the Rega Elys. This cartridge is at the top of the Rega cartridge line. The overall design makes it a perfect match for all Rega Turntables.
Rega entered the cartridge market in the early 80's and now has six moving-magnet designs. All cartridges are hand made by Rega utilizing custom coil winding techniques and ultra high precision moulded bodies. The Rega cartridge is a one piece moulding made of Pocan, a polymer with hardness greater than industrial aluminium.
Most cartridges loose high frequency energy by the movements generated in many joints created in conventional manufacturing. Most cartridges have five or six joints between the stylus mounting and the cartridge/head shell face. Rega cartridges have none! Most cartridges have to allow for large tolerances when manufacturing automatically with a reasonable gap of 0.7mm between the moving magnet and the pole pieces. This gap on Rega cartridges is only 0.25mm, much lower than any moving magnet cartridge we have tested.
