amp power to drive KEF speakers
hi, i'm using a mingda tube amp which pumps out 13W/channel. am wondering if it will be able to drive a pair of KEF speakers which has recommended amp power of 15W-125W with 89db sensitivity...

Should be ok. For the wattage you have, it's good for at least 88db or more. Your Mingda using EL84?

Re: amp power to drive KEF speakers
arremie, thanks for your feedback. yeah, my mingda is using 4 x EL84. just brought it over to hiway laser to test with the KEF IQ10 and IQ30. the sound from IQ30 felt more full-bodied with punchier bass. very big difference compared to my existing Tannoy 603.
was also considering the B&W 685, but didn't test it out.
i got the IQ30 in the end. setting them up now.

its pretty easy to drive kef speakers, especially those bookshelfs. if you wanna try tannoy line up, perhaps tannoy reveal can do more justice instead of 603. btw, how much does that iq30 cost you?

freylee, my tube amp also using EL84 but my speakers are 97db so piece of cake to drive. Congrats on the IQ30. Enjoy

yeah, i was told the kef iq series are pretty easy to drive. got the iq30 for RM2300
was using the tannoy 603 cos that's the only option i had...me being new in this with limited budget, i just got the mingda amp, and salvaged what i could find in my house
my dad had this tannoy speakers setup for AV previously, but it was decommissioned for more than 12 years.....the good thing was the pair of 603 were still working, just that it was lacking in bass. the pair of 607 however were dead...and it even somehow shorted my amp...had to change the fuse in the amp...
decided i couldn't survive with songs having lack of bass, so that's how i ended up getting the iq30...

oh I'm just using el-cheapo China amp not worth mentioning but it sounded great after I upgraded the caps. Mingda on the other hand is a nice looking China amp.
my speakers are Klipsch Ref IV

hope you won't mind me asking as i'm new in this, how did u upgrade the caps? yours is a hybrid?
i was considering tube rolling, swapping the shuguang el84 to other makes...heard that it changes the characteristics of the sound...might be for the better or for the worse...you changed your el84 tubes?
