Some Customers are asking if Up-Firing Atmos speakers good as Ceiling Atmos speakers.
- To answer this we need to see how height is the ceiling if more than 9Ft not recommended.
- Secondly we need to take care room acoustics response.
- Furthermore the Up firing Atmos speakers are Good and not the Best simply saying.
But not to worry KS AV SOLUTION can calibrate the Up Firing speakers to make it Best as ceiling speakers.
Normal automatic calibration MIC comes with the AVR is not capable and has its limitation. We need a calibrated MIC to measure precisely to MLP with external Software. This will take care the overall room acoustics and get a perfect Room Target.
Another question is : I am using SL and SR speaker in the ceiling , is this works? You are definitely wasting plenty of SL and SR soundtracks from the movies intended to give.

Every Room has his unique sound distribution. Most rooms have highly-reflective, flat walls, ceilings, and floors, and they can be a lot like echo chambers if left acoustically untreated.
Reflected sound arrives at our ears later than original, direct sound – even though both started out at the same time. Not only that, but sound travels at about 1,130 feet/second, so in a room about 18‘ long, for example, a sound wave will travel back and forth between the walls about 60 times in 1 second.
In other words, sound travels so fast, it fills a room almost instantly. And considering the fact that it also propagates in 360 degrees, it’s easy to understand how a room with bare, highly-reflective surfaces will create a nearly infinite number of sound waves all reflecting in infinite directions and colliding and interfering with each other.
All that reflected sound interferes with direct sound. While it distorts direct sound, it also generates further patterns of destructive interference – all serving to drastically diminish our listening experience.
In a room with 50 dB of background noise, a person speaking at 60 dB may be difficult to understand. That’s because the 50 dB of noise — which we call the “noise floor” due to it being the baseline level of quiet in the room — is competing with the 60 dB voice for frequencies.
The noise floor is present not only in the ambient environment around us but also in every electronic audio device we own. Much like friction in physics, noise is impossible to completely eradicate in electronics — every wire, amplifier and other piece of circuitry adds some noise. Furthermore, the noise floor cannot be removed by simply turning up the volume, as this will raise the noise floor by the same amount.

How to Properly Calibrate the HT Speakers

Here is one of our customer from Singapore. He has JBL SDP-55 , SUB - M&K SW X15+ x2 , Miller & Kreisel W150T , Ken Kreisel K500 LRC, MK SOUND MP 150 . He has dedicated HT. He contacted KS AV SOLUTION and explain that he is not satisfied with the sound system and as usual keep on upgrading his system and still not satisfied. Some of the complains poor dialog , harsh sound, bass to loud and boomy, no surround sound effects, movies are lack impact and poor clarity. As we always say all room are not a same and its has its own room Target. Auto calibration from the system has its limitations.
We have attached the data before the calibration(Auto Calibration) and after Our Professional Calibration. Our Calibration are more details and we troubleshoot each and every speakers to match the Room Target. Full Flexibility on the Target Curve , Smoothing and Windowing choices , correction frequency range vs none or only available with paid apps. Perfect timing (cross Correlation ) and Volume level (octave range centered around the frequency) adjustment of each and every speaker in the system including ATMOS height speakers. Correct room response measurement by accurate multiple position averaging and alignment. Correction of speaker/room response with optimized equalizer band adjustment. - Full Flexibility on the Target Curve , Smoothing and Windowing choices , correction frequency range vs none or only available with paid apps.
- Perfect timing (cross Correlation ) and Volume level (octave range centered around the frequency) adjustment of each and every speaker in the system including ATMOS height speakers.
- Correct room response measurement by accurate multiple position averaging and alignment.
- Correction of speaker/room response with optimized equalizer band adjustment .
Automation correction fails to correctly determine your speaker configuration, for example, it can make voices sound boomy or thin, or create distortion that makes the system sound harsh. If the system’s designers ignored good audio science, it could end up producing a boring, dull sound—or an unnaturally glaring sound.
A good room-correction system makes the sound more natural and pleasing. The notes in a bassline will have the same level as they do on the original recording.
