Bi-Wire Speaker Cable Options Empty Bi-Wire Speaker Cable Options

Post by mthoi Tue Aug 24, 2010 12:06 pm

I recently got my Tyler Acoustics Speakers (98db) driven by a Yaqin 300B tube amp. At present, I am using a QED bi-wire speaker cable.

I am wondering if there are any bi-wire cable options that I can explore - sub-RM2,000? Any suggestions/recommendations are appreciated.

Bi-Wire Speaker Cable Options Empty Re: Bi-Wire Speaker Cable Options

b4 u invest in another set of biwire speaker cables, consider this:

1) there r some people who hear no difference between single and biwire.
2) some speaker manufacturers do not recommend biwiring -such as harbeth.
3) hv u used yr qed single-wired compared with bi-wired? is there a difference? is there a HUGE difference?

i'm making all these points cos i feel yr RM2k can be spent on a power conditioner which will improve the entire system.

ya, actually this question is long inside my head. wonder will there be any difference for biwiring? it is still coming from the same source with just a split from 1 to 2 output. whats the difference? myself have not tried any biwiring setup so maybe can get some ideas from here about the concepts and pro/con.

I suspect if your bi-wire speaker binding post jumpers are of poor quality or made out of gold plated brass or steel or something like that then bi-wiring may bring about a vast improvement.

My Minima Amators are not bi-wired though. Instead I made my own jumpers fashioned out of audioquest silver spades and van den hul SCS12 silver plated speaker wire. The difference it made was not subtle! Swapping back to the original Sonus Faber jumpers of gold plated copper made my system unlistenable.

Just want to add that your original jumpers may be the culprit. But once you biwire, you would have eliminated the jumper problem thus realise better sound. But before you go the biwire route, do give quality jumpers a try. The Furutech Jumper Flux is quite amazing so I'm told and definitely cheaper than a set of good biwire speaker cables.

..Sonus Faber jumpers of gold plated copper made my system unlistenable

Sonus Faber's designers need to learn a pointer or two about designing bi-wire link. It is no use making good speakers but just cannot come up with a listenable link for the terminals. Wonder how good is the speakers then? scratch

___________
Instead of bi-wiring, try bi-amp.

Are Sonus Fabers any good? Well, it depends on personal tastes. Just like your favourite blend of coffee or tea or beer, the older Sonus Fabers like the Amators and Electas are an acquired taste. These speakers are flavourful and one either likes them or they don't. And just like other brand names which have carved out a name for themselves, they're bound to attract fans and non-fans alike. eg. Krell lovers/Krell bashers, Mark Levinson lovers/haters, etc.
