You cannot fulfill everyone, it's as simple as that. Even if everyone were to use the same system in the same environment, there's no accounting for tastes. So if you plan to design one, do one that sounds right to your ears. Then pass it to me so I can give it a spin ... Smile

The solution is to buy a mini compo with a graphic equalizer or maybe even with BBE and forget about the sound. But then again it might sound too plasticky!

Wabun...

If there are plans to build a unit, go ahead and build the unit. After which you release a few to get reviews.

Take the reviews positively and improve on the next release similar to the big boys.

Also decide which segment of the Hifi community that you want to target these phono stage - low-philers or the mid-philers or the high-philers.

You also can do a market survey on the features that a phonostage should have - dual mode or a single mode (MM / MC), adjustable loading via dip switches or in built or external power supply or Tube or Solid state circuitry. Sure there could be drawbacks in incorporating all in one shell or vice versa.

After which you would be the only one to decide the direction.

Read through this link : http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/1104/phonostage.htm

Might give you an understanding.

cheers Very Happy

I think its pretty obvious that there is no perfect design to suit all tastes.
One man's meat, another man's poison, right?
Everyone have a different perception and interpretation of perceived sound. Above all none of us have a perfect hearing, so the term 'good', 'nice', 'excellent', 'balanced, etc, etc to one may not meant(sound) the same to another...
Having said that, why are we (some of us anyway) are craving for the 'perfect sound'.. Is there an audio 'nirvana'?

Eh, he get use to my preamp sound mah, so more easier to pickup improvement / degration.. If the sound is confident enough to disclose, will bring it to you ASAP for audition. Razz , BTW i am working on a hybrid LDR phono..
