Re: The magic of ebony wood - a myth or miracle ?
heard once when put small chunk of ebony wood on turntable.
the sound seem to be more focus, treble more extended.
wondering if it is my "imagination" or it really because of the wood.
fren said ebony works like tuning fork for piano, it can reasonate
at certain frequency which in turn contributed to better music
yet i stil in doubt thats y ask if any experienced the same thing b4

It's 'Ebony and Ivory' sung by both as a duet lah.
Gosh that's a strange and exotic idea to treat room acoustics.

That Ebony stuff seems like "Shun Mook".
I wonder if i bought some carrom-pieces, painted and glossed them up nicely, then offer them as a set for home demo ... and "if" whoever hears a difference and perceives the difference to be "better sounding" .... they'd buy it ?

Think the cheapest acoustic treatment starts with cotton buds waxing our ears regularly. Even then we are warned by doctors not to overdo it.

Re: The magic of ebony wood - a myth or miracle ?
Waxing our ears? You mean like adding wax or removing ear wax?
You may or may not know this bit of disgusting information but not everybody has waxy ear wax. Most oriental people have ear flakes instead of wax. This includes pure Japanese, Koreans, Chinese and other yellow skin folks. If an oriental has waxy ear wax then cross racial marriage would have occured in their bloodline. Some Malaysian Chinese have wax because of baba-nyonya bloodline etc...
Needless to say, people with ear wax and ear flakes hear differently. Which may explain why some find it hard to accept the sound of made in china Hi-fi because it could be tuned to mainland chinese ears with ear flakes. Personally I find solid state china hi-fi too bright.
Serious, i'm really not making this up!

If a cotton bud / ear scraper is the cheapest acoustic treatment, my vote for the second cheapest goes to the Telos RCA cap. RM13 a pair. Cheap!

Don't have ebony nor ivory in the house to try. Got dad's real deer horns ornament hanging on me mum's wall. Think I try them in my listening room to see if that works. If she allows though.

Paper egg crates Mugen. They'r cheap/free with your eggs. Sure work punya. Stick them on walls, ceiling maybe floor too, leaving only the route you take around the room. Just don't invite visitors though for obvious reasons.

Re: The magic of ebony wood - a myth or miracle ?
bimmer,
That's an interesting bit of information re biological discharge in our very tools for listening and genetic differences. Guess people get confused with equipment and spend a lot of money when its a simple issue of knowing exactly what get deposited in their ears and dealing with them first. Do you suggest getting a medical check up to ascertain what equipment suit anyone best?

Nah, I don't think it calls for a doctor unless a person is going deaf or has a medical condition in the ear. There is a wax treatment offered by local spas where wax is poured down your ear, allowed to cool and then removed in sold form along with the years of junk your cotton bud or scraper is unable to remove. RM45 if I remember correctly. Never tried it but I know someone who has. Claims to hear better too.

Re: The magic of ebony wood - a myth or miracle ?
How are you supposed to treat your room acoustics with ebony anyway? Do you buy them like plywood and cover your wall with it? Or is the original poster referring to ebony accessories like small cubes or pucks to place on your speaker or over/under your equiptment?

Gee bimmer, a major tweak for peanuts it sounds like mate. Could use the wax and the years of whatnots therein during blackouts too.bimmerman wrote:Nah, I don't think it calls for a doctor unless a person is going deaf or has a medical condition in the ear. Re: The magic of ebony wood - a myth or miracle ?
its called ear-candling.
And there are alot of medical articles written against this sort of half-hack backyard procedure. Amongst it is the risk of having hot wax actually flow down into the ear canal and really messing things up especially damaging the delicate ear drum membrane.
Go Google.
If you really think your ears' hearing ability are hampered by ear wax, visit a proper ENT doctor where they have the proper tools like this miniature pipe vacumm that actually sucks the ear wax out.
Otherwise, any regular GP or physician can perform ear-syringing where lukewarm water is squirted via a big syringe that has a pressure limiting mechanism into the ear cavity to wash out the ear wax.

Phoooaww! Like that ah. Think I'll stick to me cotton buds then. Btw I stuck me dad's Mahogani mounted deer horns on the wall next to my Turntable. Didn't work. Mom's upset anyway so returning it back to its former resting place.

cotton buds also not so good ... Doc said it might push ear wax deeper into the ear canal. At least thats what MY regular doc told me.
