Naim CD5si <sold>

-Redbook-class CD player!!!
The Naim CD5Si has been around in its same, basic guise for many years now, and like all Naim products is built like a tank. It features a very unique, manual-operating swing-out drawer to load the transport, and unlike every other transport/DAC listed today, lacks any digital output. This is a single-minded Redbook player designed to do one thing, and do it as well as Naim could design it to do at a price point. The “S”designation added to the venerable player translates to an upgraded D/A circuit that Naim claims has improved the stability of the digital clock, bettered the analog filtering, and on the mechanical side of things added a more robust transport. I’ve always admired the clean, slate-grey casework of Naim designs, and the ability to add separate power supplies as you move up the product line. The CD5 was one of the first CD players I heard when I started to get into high fidelity several years ago, and I was captivated by the intense colour, and musicality to the sound without ever perceiving sacrifice in any aspect of the broad spectrum of tonal reproduction. Texture on drum skins, accurate scale, and size to instruments was impressive, and while it is not the last word in upper-octave detail retrieval, for this price point, you’d be very hard pressed to find anything better in my opinion

I do not comment on the CDX because I dont think it is that popular at all.

I think the CD5 is in line with olive CD3.5.
If you love, I advise CD5 + FC2x or HICAP (It seems that the player is transcended with this kind of power).
Attention, from my point of view the bare CD5 is a little raw base. It is good, but I found it "plain" without power, I'm not really convinced with external power as an upgrade. I do not know the bared CD3.5, but for example, I much prefer a CD3 (1541)to a naked CD5.

If you want to change the sound, then you can move towards something more precise not to say "analytic"  at that time it will be CD5x or CD5xs.

In any case we must be aware that there will be a big difference with your CD3.5, may be better but not necessarily musical , it will depend on your taste

If it helps, my opinion on the combinations I know a little , opinions that engage me only of course
CD5i: Good but nothing extraordinary, sweet, but can also become "snappy" in the high-end spectrum

CD5x + FC2x: Soft and homogeneous, a serious better held and a beautiful Sound rounded, there for once it's overall very good.
CD5x bared: Accurate with a serious finally flattering from my point of view.
CD5xs + FC2x: Even more precise, sounds better cut. At the connection of the FC2x, we perceive much more information (it's quite surprising, it can possibly be powerful). We also have a feeling of lack in the low end of the spectrum. In fact it is only an impression, the bass are still present but much better tight and control

CD5xs (bared): Accurate and sweet at the same time. A very homogeneous player that I must admit to prefer CD5si but I like less the budget

In any case, the one who has CD5xs + Naitxs has a  naim -wonder of synergy stereo  combo

Here, I think I have a rather subjective opinion because I like all previous range, each with its positive and negative points seriously 5si (superb resolution)is a very unique with bunch of improvements over all above mentioned players.

It looks like a "DIsplay"set.But still it is a "Used" set! 
minor used and almost "like" new.Whatever it is you are looking at a "Highend" CD player.A genuine naim sounds which its PRAT is what many dying for
