Description :

The Quad 77 Integrated Amplifier was a very radical design that employed an microprocessor to control volume, balance and input switching digitally. The Quad 77 Integrated Amplifier had just 2 line inputs and a tape loop and there was no phono stage. It was also one of the first products to make use of Quad's system bus that allowed other Quad 7 series equipment to be connected to the Quad 77 Integrated Amplifier via a computer ribbon cable that linked the Quad equipment together via a serial port. This was something that angered hi-fi purists as the QUADLINK on the Quad 77 Integrated Amplifier carried audio, data, and power signals on the same cable which could never be described as audiophile.

The Quad 77 Integrated Amplifier also did not take advantage of Quad's patented current dumping circuit and instead employed a very simple but stable class A/B output stage which generated about 80 watts per channel into 8 ohms. The Quad 77 Integrated Amplifier was in production from 1996 to 1999 and won 'European Amplifier of the Year' in 1997. In total 5000 units were produced before the Quad 7 series was replaced by the Quad 9 series,
