In fond remembrance of good ole Uncle Vic Wong, who never missed this event for the world. My last meet with him shortly before his demise was at the last KLAV show and was an intimate discussion at the coffee table there.
Sometime in the last decade there was a picture taken by Truck (actual founder of Yahoo KLANS group) at one of the hotel floor corridor, posted at Star Audiofile featuring most members. It was a very memorable occasion, hifi and Malaysia audiophilia was all the rave amongst us all.
I miss the man, most familiar face there and sadly he won't be around this time. Sad.

Re: KLIAV 2012
Dear all,
Was so excited this morning,...
Enter the event 11am sharp...
But.....sigh....
Just back from kliav.....
Oh no, become worst n worst....
Mostly repeat last year product n exhibitor become lesser....
Also, found some room start selling Used hifi gears....which is banned n prohibited by the organizer....
Nothing to shout about beside the 550k per pair 'S' brand speaker...
Epsically AV, totally no new thing to show off, beside throwing price for 'NOS' stock.
I can said, used hifi business will be getting better n better after visit the show....
I support used hifi & AV all the way,...best sound...best money spend....
Cheers...

Re: KLIAV 2012
No great deals on cd's or Lp's. All so expensive and lots of new reissues this time but somewhere same as shop price. Where got mega great deals..bah! Only great consolation is the door gift audiophile cd, limited to 10k copies.
But just as many people buying the same old audiophile cds spending up to hundreds.
Just my view.

Re: KLIAV 2012
After company meeting manage to get a couple of hours of 'down time' at KLIAV show.
1st room was Wembley's room, displaying their white Color stand mount speakers with matching white stands too! Sorry no camera this time. Exposure, Odyssey etc all on active action. Sorry to miss out the Rhytmik boogie machine Too many things, too little time. Also bump into Unke Wong there too, where he suggested I should go to Level 4 for some bargains.
Down the hall was Jo Ki's room...minus the crowd!!! Love Fridays! Manage to get him to play Alanis Morissette unplugged "You Oughta Know" for me! With the AB1 in tow, the 3/5a showed me that someone I know should also give Auntie's Bottom a try too! Time running out, had to move on. Thanks Jo!
While rushing off to level 4, the Jaben room caught my eye. The guys there were very accomodating, letting me try headphones, earphones, this head amp and that! I remembered some moons ago Jo said something about listening to rock using a pair of headphones is an experience and thanks to the Jaben guys I manage to procure a pair, also a head amp with various accessories.
Running, running to 4th floor....
Found the stall (next to Sony)....
- Shelby Lynne, gold badge on offer.
- Paul Simon's 25th anniversary edition is a good buy
- The Band's Songs from the Big Pink (MoFi, new) is also another good deal.
2nd hand stuff going for RM20 an album. They also accept CC, which should be good news for our intrepid moderator here
And who says there no deals to be found?
Even CMY records are quite reasonably priced, with 20% discounts being offered.
Hope to be back tomorrow.....

Re: KLIAV 2012
Good to meet up some of the guys.
The worthiness of the show is subjective and personal so to different people, it will have different level of 'worthiness'. Everyone is right in their point of view. Only comment I will offer is my appreciation to the organiser (Dick Tan & company) for organising this show yearly and also the fact that for some time now, they have not increased the entrance fee, still RM10. Plus this year got free CD somemore. Thanks to JoKi whom I know put in lots of personal time and energy to compile the songs for the CDs.
There are lots of fantastic bargains, but again really depends on the individual. Unfortunately for those in the digital camp, there doesn't seem to be much to offer. There is a clearance of Blu-Ray discs - RM49 per disc which is a very good price. Titles are not that bad, Iron Man (1), Star Trek Final Frontier, Harry Porter Chamber of Secrets etc. Of course cannot expect most current titles la. However, the true bargain is for the vinyl kaki's, as there is a stall, the one that cyh mentioned, that is selling LPs for a steal. With the great number of reissues in recent times, it is a boom time for vinyl lovers.
I do believe there are some new things to experience in the show, at least for those like me who is not extremely active, i.e. I don't run off to the dealers regularly for every new thing that comes in. So for me, the Sonus Faber Aida, or the KEF Blade, they are new things for me to listen to. And other new stuff as well.

Re: KLIAV 2012
You are right WongKN....it all depends on what you are looking for. Like I mentioned in my previous post, this year I went there without any purchase objective... so was not disappointed at all. In fact I was happy that LP was on sale....My only regret is that I didnt put a budget for LP expenditure heheheh so went crazy on the RM20/piece at Greg's kiosk (infront of Sony) and also the 20% discounted LPs at CMY.
JoKi, you and Maxx were your usual accommodating self. Steve and Ting CMY as well. In fact CMY has just landed themselves with a dealership arrangement with Audiolab and Mission starting 1st July. So, there was a come back in the show from these 2 brands. Eyeing to demo the Audiolab MDAC....but as usual, CMY said come to the shop lah....where everyday is KLIAV show for me hahahahah.
Three things that catches my eyes:
1. Aktimate and AVI active speakers. I have been toying with the idea of basic second setup and it sounded powerful last night.
2. The Perreaux + Spendor set up. Not necessarily the amp and speakers, but the new incoming turntable. Waaaahhhhh tempting.
3. Bryston BHA-1 headphone amp. Demo-ed it with a pair Grado PS-1000 headphones (which was more expensive than the amp hahaha). Some AV Design giving 25% discount on this amp and 15% discount on other Bryston product.
Unfortunately, only had 2 hrs to roam around yesterday....and being fasting month, this year is a no-go for me on the weekends.

Re: KLIAV 2012
The boys are probably too tired and busy to post it so I thought I will post it for them. For those who have yet to visit the KLAVS, if you do drop by tomorrow, remember to drop by the Maxx room where the Exposure 2010 DAC is making its debut in Malaysia. The unit just arrived Friday and was rushed to the Maxx room late Friday evening. I helped connect it up today morning and visitors today and tomorrow will be able to have a listen. This DAC is full functioned, with 6 inputs including USB and is also high-res capable. Most importantly is the selling price is below RM4k, quite a bit below 4k from what I understand. Just to let you guys know, especially if you are in the market for an affordable but up to date DAC, something worthwhile to just check it out.

That's the way to go man, second system. Truly the man with the bottomless wallet.
I was there again today for a short visit. I wonder if others agrees with me or not. Perhaps it is because today is the start of puasa but the crowd so far this year is a lot smaller than last year. I remember most rooms being a lot more crowded last year than this. I hope it is not a sign of the economy...
One thing I hate to say but I suppose it might be useful feedback in case the organisers reads this, is that the helpers in the show can sometimes be over-zealous. I understand they have a job to do and they want to be serious about it. But some discretion might be worthwhile. I saw numerous case where they stop people to check whether they have the arm band or not. I saw quite a number of young boys being stopped and checked and I really pity them because the way they were stopped were not exactly polite, rather the tone they use are wrong. I noticed a few people looked annoyed at the way they were stopped. Sometimes, especially the women, their arm band can be hidden due to the long sleeves of their blouse. The important thing is they are often with their spouse or boyfriends, etc. Some intelligence needs to be exercised here. For e.g., if anyone wants to sneak into the show to save RM10, it would not be that women following their husband. We men often have enough problems getting our wives or girlfriends into our hobby. The annoyed faces of the ladies I saw, IMHO, are certainly NOT going to help things. Remember if the ladies gives the men trouble, upgrades are not going to be forthcoming.
Anyway, this is something the organiser decides to do or not do. Just my opinion.

I think is a very good deal , don't miss it
hi first time visitor here, as well... and was not disappointed but rather enticed
it was good to finally put some faces to the hard working store personnel like:
- Steve of CMY audio (i was very particular on the brik int amp + audiopro mondial which sounded sweet to me... yes small but sweet / very nice for my yet to be existing bedroom setup)
- room 7031 Living Audio (if not mistaken) for putting up the show... this room puts up the show for me where the store represetative / owner (sorry don't know the name but still very very accommodating) let me experience "patricia barber's nardis" it sound big / subtle / and MOVING at the same time. Too bad I haven't had the time to stay to learn how to setup the "pyramid" thing for bass distribution.
surely there are other great rooms to visit; so share your experience here
P.S. will definitely come back if not tomorrow the following years.. the commemorative CD alone is more than worth the entrance, kudoz to Jo Ki.

Three things that catches my eyes:
1. Aktimate and AVI active speakers. I have been toying with the idea of basic second setup and it sounded powerful last night.
I went to the show on Friday with 3 of my other hifi buddies and started roaming the places from 1pm to around 5pm+ but have totally missed the AVI showroom (was trying to look for it at level 8 & 7 but a few rooms seems to be out of bound with the door closed and the show helper sitting in front of those few rooms). Would appreciate it if some nice caring forumers would care to share who is the dealer for the AVI brand in Malaysia or Singapore, so that i am able to pay them a visit and audition the AVI latest gear.
Coming back to the show, the crowd on Friday, seems to be larger than the previous year's Friday (maybe due to most of the muslim audiophiles trying to complete the yearly visits before the start of puasa on saturday or it could be due to the attraction of the free commemorative CD ). Although some of the gears on display was already shown in last year KLAV, there is a quite a few of new exhibitors and brands, like the BFA, genesis, avantgarde, XTZ and a few others. Overall setup imho is much better than the previous show and I would say that Perfect Hifi and Audio Perfectionist (both of their better setup is in level 4 with their cost no factor setup) was among 2 of the most improved exhibitors as compare to their previous year setup. Anyway, since no forumers have yet to share any photos of the show yet, i humbly share the below 2 photos which imho is a few of the better setups in this year show. Please excuse the quality of the photos and i am sure, some of us will be sharing photos of better resolution very soon ...
Beyond Frontier Audio (BFA)'s electronics + Triangle Speakers
Audio Research Corp (ARC) Ref CD8, Ref Anniversary Pre, Ref 250 + Sonus Faber Aida
Cheers.

Re: KLIAV 2012
Hi guys...
1st of all i wanna wish happy ramadhan to all muslims and for non muslims enjoy wonderfull spread at "Bazaar Ramadhan" during this fasting month sharing a 1 Malaysian spirits.
Yeezzzzzz manage to attend the yearly event on the 1st day..normally will attend either 2nd or the last day but this year "Puasa" month start on the 2nd day of the event so lets rock...taking the early express train (ETS) from Ipoh at 7am and it takes 2 hours 15 minutes to arrived at KL Sentral, this is my 1st time using this express train overall really satisfied with the service - recommended to all !!! take the commuter to Bukit Bintang and had my breakfast before enter the event at 11am..as usual pay Rm10 for the fees and get the Commemorative CD thanks to organizer at least there is some memories attending the event. This year not bring my DSLR, just borrow from my fiancee canon compact camera..argghhhh!!! she forgot to bring the data cable so will takes some time to share some shorts during this event.
For a start will go around searching any good bargain items from the dealers, manage to buy terminated 1 meter van den hul D502 hybrid phono cable for Rm80 and bought a pair of speaker and interconnect cable (Straight Wire) from the same dealer - really good bargain lahhh!!!
Whhaatttttt!!! only 2 ringgits !!!! hey guys is only 2 ringgit per piece for an audio magazine from Indonesia...where can get this kind of price for new edition and full coloured magazine in our country.Same format as international audio magazine, most reviews in indonesian dialect and also some article in english
I "tapau" all edition "Suii Suii" front cover huh!!! im carry only a bag pack if not i will buy extra for my friends
At the 4th floor spending 2 hours searching for CD and LP...bought 12 pcs new and used LP's and 2pcs CD's...thanks to CMY for 20% discount and Benjamins kiosk for their bargain LP's...not all the CD and LP are cheap even after discount just need some studies on certain recording, for instance the audioquest CD normally selling nearly Rm70 but during the show manage to get it at Rm50 so its already a great deals
After a breaks, start back from 8th floor for listening experience, yeahh only for experience coz most of the set up is not my league this year i can hear nicely set up from the hi end system not like before most of the set up not really in tune....maybe in modern sounding more towards to fast and forward sounding with power bass and super high ... machintosh system with jm lab speakers really powerfull but not for the avantgarde system just showing off sounding for warm and relax sounding as usual Mr Jo with Ls3 will always put the the rogers on tops same goes to audionote and harbeth speakers rooms.
There is no gathering with hifi4sale teams maybe because mostly are busy and tide schedule..Just meets old friend during the shows and for "Mr Halim" thanks for patch me
Surprisingly there is a guy recognize me only with my pink shoes normally they will recognize with my shiny head
Thanks to organizer teams especially Mr Dick Tan who make this event successful hopefully will continue the hard works to makes this remarkable yearly events.

Re: KLIAV 2012
Oh yeah, hard working me arrived before the organisers were ready for me :
On the way down...
So pretty among the ugly black boxes
Chatted with Maxx Audio in this room
The LS50 sounded harsh at times. Asked the dude manning the room whether any break-in. He said only started playing on Friday. Why do these people bring brand new stuff & expect them to sound good ? I am getting mine soon I hope.
Bought some high rez stuff from these guys - MA recordings

ProAc + Naim - A match made in Heaven. I like the sound from this CMY room a lot. But I am biased
Raindrop audio from Singapore. Malaysia seems to be doing better than Singapore when it comes to HIFI shows. HER also exhibiting this year.
Big, dynamic sound
Sounded good all those years ago at the show, still sounds good now
Lovely

Hi Fizi,
Yeah ler...wanted to organise gathering this year, but was going to be busy on Fridays as usual, plus Saturday is the start of bulan Ramadan, so last year's arrangement agak susah.
Nevermind, as long as there were bargains, it would have been good. If only I managed to get the Grado SR60 headphones...let's see whether my friend got it for me. Buy 2, get better price... .
This year's Ipoh contingent was good, Dong Fong were displaying some racks with the Avantgarde equipment in the room by Audio Note. DT Sound guys are also Ipoh mari punye, in fact, one of them took the express train just like you.
Re: KLIAV 2012
Joeling,
True to form, great pics as usual. May I have the permission to 'celup' these and upload them to AudioFi.net?

Hi CYH, thanks for dropping by and my pleasure to give you "You Oughta Know", which is totally uncensored with the F-word. Ha.. yes, my music repertoire would have shrunk tremendously if I didn't add the Aunty's Bottom to my LS3/5A... you mentioned this someone I know?cyh wrote:
Down the hall was Jo Ki's room...minus the crowd!!! Love Fridays! Manage to get him to play Alanis Morissette unplugged "You Oughta Know" for me! With the AB1 in tow, the 3/5a showed me that someone I know should also give Auntie's Bottom a try too! Time running out, had to move on. Thanks Jo!

Hi elhefe, it is good to meet up once a year among friends and fellow audiophiles. Apart from the meet, I also value the chance in gaining another experience with the setting up of my system in a unfamiliar environment.elhefe wrote:
JoKi, you and Maxx were your usual accommodating self. Steve and Ting CMY as well. In fact CMY has just landed themselves with a dealership arrangement with Audiolab and Mission starting 1st July.
