Yah yah, this bimmerman is just too much. As the moderator, it is hereby my duty to uphold the high level of morality in this forum. And I shall my duty by confiscating the ML book from bimmerman. As well as his copy of the Karma Sutra. Heck, while I am in the moderator role, might as well check through the whole bimmerman stash and confiscate all those blue movies as well !!

Re: Krell - discussion thread
Yikes, the forum Gestapo is coming to git me. But you'll be disappointed as all you'll find is Sesame street and Hi-5 videos for kids. I'm a good daddy I am.
But I was seriously searching for info on that very expensive Momentum amp and while doing that I was ebaying for Mark Levinson stuff (I'm still looking for a Levinson CD transport you know) and that book just came up in the search. Shock and horror.
Ok sorry for that distraction. Back to damping factors, watts and other forms of measurebation.
Cheers y'all

Re: Krell - discussion thread
Just wondering the Soulution 710 power amp has a rating of 120W and a damping factor of 8,000 into 8 ohms.
http://www.soulution-audio.com/english/e_710highlights.html
Anyone here who has extensive audition of this amp....how does it compare with a similar Krell amp ?

Re: Krell - discussion thread
Why don't you go and listen to the Soulution Amp and some equiv. Krell amp and then decide for yourself. A picture (in this case a sonic picture) is worth a thousand words.
Don't worry. Listening is free one.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
If you compare the two generations of these Krell integrateds, you will realize that which one obviously has more power and which is more refined.
They are sort of like mercedes and BMW. Very different.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
I think one of the FBP's would be very close to the stereo power amp. Especially those monster 400 CX versions and above.
Some of the older generation Krells, like the KAS & KAS-2 and then the legendary MR-A are really in a class by itself. Even with the reputation of the Soulution, I have not yet encountered anyone with a KAS, KAS-2 or MR-A trading in their amps for a Soulution, eventhough some of the owners I have met personally and I know they can -easily- afford it.

Interview with Dan D'Agostino aout his new MOMENTUM amplifier:-
>>>Class A/B?
Yes
>>>What do you think about pure A class? Is it a must for a true high-end performance?
No, it is not a must. Class A uses a lot of energy for very little performance difference.

Has any lucky fella put the top Krell models alongside a Soulution to compare?
Just curious...

Re: Krell - discussion thread
Actually I just remembered meeting someone who traded in his KAS-2 for a pair of Soulution monoblocks to drive Magico speakers. So I stand corrected.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
I didn't ask, I just met him at the shop and was actually admiring his Porsche. I was lucky he wanted to chit-chat with me and was willing to tell me what he had and what he just bought. Didn't had the mind to ask him if I can go listen or not though. He was in a rush and left before the thought crossed my mine. If I ever see him again, I will ask him. I myself am curious. The KAS-2 is a formidable amp but I suspect the Soulution monobloc being top of the range for Soulution must surely be better. How much better is the question....

Re: Krell - discussion thread
I can't help but thinking of the analogy of cars with hifi.
Different manufacturers have different signatures and also their "trademarks".
Few days ago while waiting for a friend at Glenmarie, I managed to see some nice cars coming out of a small road turning into the main road.
Two of the cars had the gas pedal floored hard right after the cars were steered to point straight, aiming towards the end of the main road.
They are both hardcore with one producing the smell of burnt petrol and the other smell of burning rubbers. They are both fast but yet so different in providing the drama.
One is more like the subtle kind which can be used almost everyday for the school run while the other is pure brute force creature which will set your pants on fire.
It is not easy to say which one I like more coz they are so different.
I would say they are unique in their own ways. So much fun standing there by the roadside that day.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
Talking about KAS-2, I had the opportunity to audition it today. A big thank you to the kind owner.WongKN wrote:Actually I just remembered meeting someone who traded in his KAS-2 for a pair of Soulution monoblocks to drive Magico speakers. So I stand corrected.
I am hoping for the chance to audition the legendary MRA.
Re: Krell - discussion thread
This may be of interest to Krell fans. Dan D'Agostino talks about how he got started in the business, co-founding Krell, the evolution of amp design, leaving Krell and starting a new company under his own name, his new Momentum amp, the demise of audio quality in the MP3 generation, his about-face on the sonic effect of cables, the poor timing of CES, and answers to chat-room questions.

Hai Bimmerman & Gurus for Krell
Thought I would like to join in the search for a Krell int amp. Perhaps the latest S300I to pair with my Sonus Faber Toy Tower.
Anyone can provide some insight to this matter? Any suggestion?
