Re: benefits of bi-amping
Horizontal bi-amping for me....
Have always been bi-amping my speakers since day 1 which includes Mission, Heybrook, TDL, EPOS and now ProAc.
Amplification as follows:
1. Previous - MF X-A1 running tweeters and MF X-A50 monoblocks running the bass driver
2. Current - MF M6i running bass drivers and MF M1 PWR running tweeters
A lot of people says that there is minimal benefit...and minimal improvement..
Not for me... I get bigger sound stage and I can feel that the amp struggles less to drive speakers. Music flow is more fluid.
The point where I know bi-amp works is not when I set things up, is when I take out the bi-amp factor. This is when one of my monoblock blew, so for a good 2 months, I had my speakers to be single wired.... Thats when I realised and feel that something is missing from my normal musical presentation.
Thats another way to experience whether bi-amp will benefit you or not.. Set it up... listen to it and get accustomed to the sound eventhough you dont hear any improvement initially.... after a few months... remove the bi-amp and go single wire... You may be able to experience how much bi-amp can impact your system.
My 2 cents...

Re: benefits of bi-amping
Wish to try out bi-amping with my current setup but my pre-amp only have one pair of RCA pre-out. So, I had no idea of how to share one pair pre-out to 2 pair of RCA inputs.

Chewwokho,
Getting an adaptor may help. The Y type rca. Not too sure whether it will deteriote the sound quality.

Re: benefits of bi-amping
To go the whole nine yards, should consider active bi-amping.
In active bi-amping, active electronic crossovers are introduced before amplification, gaining the advantages of active over passive crossovers. The amp output is connected directly to the drivers without any protection from passive crossovers, and any misstep will blow up the drivers.
In the 80s, there was an Active Loudspeakers Organisation (ALSO), now defunct, regulating the implementation of active loudspeakers for such purpose.

Re: benefits of bi-amping
Just read the comments from Dennis J. Had in av2day.com on electronic crossovers. Maybe ALSO was defunct for a reason.

Re: benefits of bi-amping
skeelee,
active bi-amped or tri-amped speakers are still being manufactured.
1 you can hear the active atc at hi-way laser
2) or you can hear the active pmc at av designs
3) or you can hear the active meridian at the meridian showroom near plaza damas.

Re: benefits of bi-amping
Thank for the info, but I have other parameters to worry about like:
1) Resultant Impedance
2) Resultant Capacitance, etc.
Do all these affect the fine parts of the music.

Re: benefits of bi-amping
To do BI-amping is going to be great for the speakers cos more power driving each drivers but u need a pre-amp which has two set of output and those pre-amp which comes in with it cost a lot more and if u used y-adapter u will loose a lot of signal due to higher resistance, U can always try using this adapter on a TV and see for your self what is the differences.
