Bi-amping question Empty Bi-amping question

Post by mpyw Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:00 am

Hi, I am currently using the following:-

7.1 system
Marantz SR6003 AV Receiver
Cambridge Audio Azur 640Cv2 CD player
Axiom M60v2 floorstander (Max 250W, 92db efficiency, 8 ohm)
Axiom VP150v2 center (Max 400W, 91db efficiency, 6 ohm)
Orb Audio Mod 1 x 4 units as surround (Max 120W, 90db efficiency, 8 ohm)
Velodyne CHT-12R sub-woofer

if I were to add a 5 channel power amplifier (200W each channel), 3 ch to power the L/R/C, can I use the balance 2 ch to bi-amp the L/R?
How to do that as all 7 ch from the SR6003 had been used up for the 7.1 speakers?
Would I gain a lot of power for my setup as most of the speakers I have are 8 ohm and rather highly efficient?

Thanks.

u can use pre out from the sr6003 to connect to the power amp, but sr6003 only has 1set of preout, you either use splitter to bi-amp or use your power amp to control the low and connect your marantz to high. both also not good optionlah..

i think better u check as monitor screen set up
u can check all speaker connetor and listen the sound too
adjust level gain distant and more. if urs system used 5.1 system better click stereo and u want bi amp speaker more 5 add 2 more speaker just attach urs cable to L/r channel . is no problem .
but the sound still discreet 5.1 channel . just only 2 speaker more.

more efisien combine av prosesor or 7.1 channel

aminnh,
I got the Axiom direct from Axiom Canada.
Am looking at Emotiva either XPA-3 or XPA 5 to drive the front 3.
If the XPA-5 cannot be fully utilised, will take the XPA-3 only.
Also considering the Marantz MM8003 but the power are not the great compared to the Emotiva.

mpyw,
how did you bought the Axiom? via internet or you bought it at Canada and bring it here? I really wish to try to hear the Axiom as they advertise it well in the internet.
I'm not sure of marantz equipments but from my experience in using separate power amp in HT you surely gonna find improvement in every ways. I also not sure of EMOTIVA but it reviewed quite well in the HT magazines/website. for me if you have the budget you go straight to XPA-5 (i think it is 5 channel right).
you set up your preout to 5 channels emotiva and 2 for rear back surround from Marantz internal power.. or better if you wanna biamp take 4 channel to biamp to front pair of speakers and 1 channel for center. surround you use back the marantz internal power.
not good choice to combine internal power and external power in biamp mode.
I've done this to my setup.. I hv nad t753 av amp- powering front speakers I've connected nad 2700 thx 2 channel power amp, center channel using nad 2100 power amp, and surrounds i use back the already powerful internal AV Amp..the av amp will only concentrate power to the surrounds. the result? mesmerizing..
subwoofer of course la velodyne cht 12 r.
I really hope that i can test emotiva and axiom one day..
how do you plan to buy the emotiva? is it sold in malaysia?tq

i say go with the XPA-5. or budget allows it, why not a pair of XPA-3 to bi-amp the front LCR? the 6003 can then drive the remaining 4 surrounds.

personally, if i have the budget, i would have a pair of Axiom floorstands to replace the surrounds L/R, then get a pair of XPA-5 to bi-amp the 5 channels!!! great for SACD too. best still if u can replace the center channel with a matching floorstand!

last time i checked, i think u have to specify 230/240v version when u order it? so that the amp(s) will work in Malaysia? the postage for a unit of XPA-3 is about USD210 via FedEx. not sure about the postage for XPA-5 though.

cheers,
wps
