Without the actual schematic diagram and some expert on digital electronics, its not going to be easy nor smooth process. Better off buying a well designed external DAC to suit your requirement.

pingo, sony kss-213C pick up....

i think can't blame sony pickup....some cdp using the same pickup is quite reliable...high chance is the circuit design cause problem....

Would you believe I tried one KSS-213C bought for peanuts at Pasar Rd shops, lasted me for 4 years + now in my secondary CDP and still flawless, reading macam macam CDR discs and own compilation stuff. Was convinced I bought another 5 pcs for spares. The original I kept it safely as spare. Yes, the Pasar Rd one is still very much in service now.
I have a hate for Philips based 12.XX mechanisms in terms of reliability. Will never want to own a CDP with that model of optics.
P.S. Of course there's lemons to be found.. not always fairy tales everywhere.

Is there some benchmark of an expected lifetime of a CDP so 10 years ago sudah terror ah?
I'm already thankful and lucky that "cheap priced" KSS213C lasted this long already even if its some 4 years only.

no need to wait ... whatever tickles your fancy, just buy it lah !

u should be in control of whatever equipment u wanna get, right ? Not your existing equipment controlling you over what to buy or not to buy ??

cd transport - Page 2 Empty Re: cd transport

Post by mthoi Mon Apr 05, 2010 1:54 pm

I finally got my DIY CD Transport working. It is based on Philips CD Pro2LF mechnism. It has its own on-board DAC and I am using the stock audio output from the mechnism to a DIY 6922 buffer (EH 6922 gold pins and Mundorf Supreme caps).

The initial listening impression (as compared to my Meridian 506 with Burson op-amps) was better clarity and wider sounstaging. With the tube buffer, it sounds less digital. Vocals and musical instruments seems more intimate. A new toy to play with...

I have yet to get the TDA1541 DAC working, but with the tube buffer, I am pretty happy with the sweetness and analogue sounding CDP.

After this experience, would I consider a diy or a commercial item? Hard to decide, but it a hobby to tinker around with home diy audio. I would also need to do some a/b comparisons to benchmark how a diy compares with commercial products.

p/s - how do you post pics in this tread?
