ongaaron,

try Mr. Oh 012-2060888. He is an engineer and may be able to help. Good luck and let me know if he is able to help.

Hmmm...I'm beginning to wonder who can actually service a 20 year old AR such as Classic 60 while still using original caps such as older version of REL and Wondercap capacitors ? Equivalent caps are an absolute no no !!

Hi Bite,

Rhetorical for this one. So, ongaaron do make a call and try your luck. Make a post here on the outcome.

Otoh, let's face it, a vast majority of our local techs. may be able to rectify and solve the problem (using their own caps). But I'm sure 95% are not willing to bring in certain 6 pieces of capacitors from across the continent just for one customer !!

However, I do know a single shop in Amcorp willing to do it if one is willing to pay, though AR stuffs was never mentioned during the discussion.

true but a tradesman cannot be blamed for what tools and materials are available to him. i am sure a technician could be enticed to bring in spares assuming he has easy access and if one is prepared to bear the cost.

Fact of the matter is, in a small market the consumer bears the risks when he buys equipment past the warranty period and if he isnt prepared to bear the cost of bringing in the required parts then generic parts will just have to do. Having said that, i hear some OEM dont stock up on parts beyond a certain period.

Just occurred to me, the AR distributor in s'pore "hi-end research" may carry some spares and more likely on models handled during their tenure.

It would be unfair to blame anyone (because it will be a 'sendiri mau ingat' kind of thing when we buy or owned a used hifi gear). But then again, a selected few are way better than having none at all alright.

Hopefully AR owners take note of this topic. Smile
