We Present to you below, selected Cd's which form "Absolute Audiophile! Jazz Trio/Quartet Package" consisting of 4 Cds - This range is sold as a lot (please do not ask for individual Cd's).
Jazz Trios have long been fancied for their dialogues between the piano, and the rhythm section,
The Piano is premiervoice that formed the jazz idiom, taking it from ragtime to the highly developed form it is known today,
with the exception of Eric Alexander's Tenor Saxophone on David Hazeltine CD, the rest of the Cd's are Jazz Trio's, Pablo Marquez's
Percussion on Antonio Farao's Date, adds the subtle touch hence, i wouldn't rate it as a quartet disc, but a full blown trio outing.
Enjoy the Music - Quinta Ruban.
1.Antonio Farao Trio - Next Stories (Enja Records - Made in Germany)
“Antonio is not only a fine pianist, but a great one” - Herbie Hancock
Pioneering Italian Jazz Pianist Antonia Farao here is joined by Acoustic Bassist Ed Howard and Gene Jackson with the
additional percussion of Pablo Marquez on a more than pleasing set of Jazz standards and Originals, t
"What Is this Thing Called Love?" is given a stomping treatment which is fresh, yet timeless.
Antonio in fact does not sound like the run of the mill pianist, his style combines a certain sense of Mediterranean sound sensibility
with a deep understanding of the black piano tradition, Antonio Faraò has successfully overcomes his image as an enfant prodigy,
"Fresh" Trio Date, from a vast ocean called Jazz, and that too from the world of jazz piano trios.
2.Abdullah Ibrahim Trio (also known as The Dollar Brand Trio) - Yarona - (Enja Records - Made in Germany)
Having explored various African jazz themes on Knysna Blue in a solo setting, Ibrahim continued in this direction with his group Ekaya. The trio, rounded out by bassist Marcus McLaurine and drummer George Johnson allow the pianist to engross himself in his shifting ideas that range from bop, African pop, swing, and even hints of a Keith Jarrett influence. "Mannenberg" and "African Marketplace," two Ibrahim classics, are given brief but interesting updates. The remainder of the tracks are all excellent and most exceed six minutes long, allowing for the non-hurried development of ideas by this remarkable trio. Highly recommended for both performance and originality -
Robert Taylor (Jazz Critic)
3.David Hazeltine Quartet - Manhattan Autumn (Sharp 9 Records - Made in U.S.A)
Pianist David Hazeltine joins forces once again with tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander for an outstanding session. With bassist Peter Washington and drummer Joe Farnsworth supplying the base of a solid rhythm section, Hazeltine delves into several pop songs from the 1950s and 1960s, giving them complete makeovers. Henry Mancini's slow waltz "Moon River" incorporates stop-time measures initially before settling into a driving hard bop mode. Burt Bacharach's often tediously played ballad "The Look of Love" is still played at a slow tempo, but the pianist adds an ominous sound to sections of his trio arrangement. The briskly paced scoring of Jimmy Van Heusen's "Nancy (With the Laughing Face)"features a driving piano reminiscent of McCoy Tyner's style, as well as adding a tasty bass solo by Washington.
The originals on the session are every bit as potent. The leader's "A Walk in the Park" is a demanding piece full of twists and turns,
which the quartet navigates with ease. His "Blues on the 7" showcases Alexander's powerful playing, while the tenor saxophonist's
vigorous blues "On the Marc" is every bit as enjoyable.Highly recommended - Ken Dryden (Jazz Critic)
4.Kenny Barron Trio - Lemuria Seascape (Candid Records - Made in England)
The celebrated pianist, whose been a mainstay in Jazz for over 3 decades, has a rare session here with talented drummer Ben Riley (Thelonious Monk's Drummer) and Ray Drummond on Bass, Recored at the Rudy Van Gelder Studios by RVG himself, the sound of this disc is bothsuperb and has the rounded edge, Rudy Van Gelder is famous for, mischievous treatment on Richard Rodger's "Have you met Miss Jones?" and Monk's "Ask Me Now", makes this disc a collector's item.Possibly more than any of his other albums, this one reveals that Kenny Barron has richly fulfilled the promise that excited us in his earliest works three decades ago,
sounds perfect through a vacuum amp, a warm analogue soundings disc! (From The First Master).
PRICE : RM 155.00 for the entire LOT (non negotiable)
