The producers of this project discovered archival reels of Ray Charles and the Count Basie Orchestra performing live together in 1973. Although the vocals were superior, the remaining elements were of extremely poor quality. They decided to bring the current Basie Orchestra into the studio and, using the latest technology, they carefully and painstakingly laid down a new instrumental backdrop for Charles' towering vocals.

I am stunned by how good this album is. Ray is in total top form, and the new arrangements are excellent. The lp is more open than the cd, and Ray's voice just sits in the mix great. This album is a labor of love by those who spent the time to finally meld Rays recording of years ago with modern arrangements played by the current Basie band. No matter how hard you listen you will still think Ray and the band made this recording at the same time. I love this album and if you love Ray you HAVE to get this!!!

The music is great and the sound is out of this world. It is as if God brought Ray back to sing in my family room! The Basie band is a perfect match for Ray's vocals.
