Hmmm.. I am not an electronic engineer but judging by the looks both are kinda identical. Maybe Pioneer top of the range player also uses the same boards?

I will go for Pioneer dvd player.

there are many high end stuff producing normal quality sounding

I guess the only differ is the disc tray or the laser lens. Goldmund one maybe can survive many many many years.

many player tends to use either Pioneer, Philips or Sony as their base model...the classic example is Trichord Research..once the upgraded the Pioneer PDS-703 to sound much better than the original. Both model used the same facade..the difference for Trichord Research, they just put a sticker on top the Pioneer label... Laughing

Exactly, I've got some examples:

Einstein, Bow, Wadia, such is not better than Japanese model. Even the highest model Wadia today, does not make a better sound rather than Sony R10.
Mcintosh MCD 201, 7009, well, especially, 7009 inside is same to Teac 10.
Micro Mega used characters same to Yamaha.
