Advice please RPM9 partnering
Hi all,
What do you think will pair well with this combo please?
I have just got a PRo-ject RPM9 with Ortofon Quintet Black MC cartridge and Pro-ject Phono Box DS2.
The sound is still so poor in terms of not very detailed and most of the detail is in the background.
What would you do to suggest to improve the details? especially on background musical instruments and separation and less dull sounding.
Other parts of system:
Accuphase E-408 amplifier
Marantz SA-7S1 SACD
Analysis Plus Golden Ovals XLR RCA and Golden Oval speaker cables
Van den Hul The First for the Pro-ject RPM9
Thank you kindly

Seems there’s nothing wrong with your equipment we assume. But my goes, since you give so little detail of the situation ie. volume at normal, cartridge settings on amp set for mc and not mm, cartridge properly wired, cartridge properly fitted, no hum due to correct grounding, interconnects in good condition making a secure connection, cartridge in good condition, etc
Good luck then

Project makes very good TTs and yours is a good setup so unless it’s a problem with the cabling, the culprit is most likely your phono amp’s settings. My son has a Project phono amp (forgot the model) with a few switches and many2 possible combinations so it took a while for me to set it up. As for me, it’s a SUT combo, easier to manage.
Anyway, best of luck!

Thank you guys.
Still unsure what's the optimal phono box settings and optimal volume for TT?

Hi
You should adjust the cartridge settings and that on the phono box with the same settings. Your cartridge Manual will have the details on the required settings. Hope this helps.
