Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
Recently, lots of Spore dealers got bashed in echoloft for not posting the prices for the items that they are selling and also not replying sms.
I am glad we do not have such case over here in Malaysia.
Everyone is co-operative.
Here are some websites:
www.hifi.com.sg/
www.modularaudio.com.sg
www.ongradio.com/
We can find lots of HiFi shops at The Adelphi in Spore.
There are also some shops selling CDs and LPs there.
Apart from The Adelphi, there are some 2nd hand dealers at Roxy Square.

Maybe it is a blessing in disguise for you that they are off when you were there. Imagine having to deal with this kind of profanity.

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
tycham, you are right about that.
Future i should re route to Adelphi hoping the manhattan side will be more civilize. But not too sure about the food there are as good as in Roxy area especially the Laksa opposite the road.
And for our brother tubejunkie, there is a Spa in Roxy square one stone two birds..

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
hijau,
Suggest you not to visit HiFi shops on Sunday as most of them are closed.
Only a few shops is open on Sunday. One of them is KEC Sound.
But they only open for very short hours on Sunday.
echoloft has been a place for hot debate sessions between potential buyers and dealers.
It is really not as good as the hifi4sale (not hifi4sales) that we have here. Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....

Agree that there are more choice of good food in Katong area. For a decent meal at Adelphi, most probably would have to pop over to Funan Centre across the road.
Two shops which I would avoid at Adelphi are Audio 88 and Alpha Audio.

If not mistaken, one of them is the exhibitor who brought in the YG Acoustics speakers to the KLIAV2009.
Any particular bitter experience you had with them?
There is a shop at The Adelphi selling CDs and LPs which is extremely packed.
So packed that turning around is such a difficult task.
Shocked during my 1st visit there...

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
I was quite shock this place looks like a mass, Actually one of the worst of all the other country i had visited but the good thing surrounding that area there is plenty of hifi shops around even some in Katong building, behind street of shop all within walking distance. But the parking here is not cheap.
Car O Scope, I m really impress with the freedome to voice at echoloft at least then we know who / where to avoid right?
Guys, Lets share more of your known shop in sg. to all the others brother in this forum, the more info the more we learn.

I have only been to some shops at The Adelphi.
KEC Sound, A&L Audio and Norman Audio are the ones that I have walked in to.
They are willing to discuss, chat with you and demo for you.

Aren't we free to voice our opinions over here too now?
For fair pricing, Coherence and Music By Design at Adelphi had quoted me prices which is always less than their American counterparts. Still can bargain some more.

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
I've bought a pre-owned amp from listeninn ('congrats' on hifi4sale) a few months back and must say the service close to first class; personally delivered to me in KD from Singapore and a nice person/people to boot. A few queries via email and telephone calls on their products were promptly replied and answered, even on some occasions, into the wee hours of the morning. Thanks Messrs Goh. .
Anyway, I could barely recall buying a cable (I think an Audioquest something) and other accessories on a visit to Adelphi (maybe) way back in 1995, the service was at best, lukewarm, in general, non existent, similar to a number of stores in Malaysia to be honest .
A few visits to the Republic since have not stirred me to venture into that neck of the wood. So these posts may again may prompt again the urges (plus the spa)!!
Cheer,
zeebee

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
just out of curiosity, do we have to pay custom taxes if we buy electronics/hifi equipments from Singapore?
It would seem to be such a waste if I found something I like then get heavily taxed while passing by custom.
any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
Taxes are 10% for "audio parts". So if u import, get the seller to declare as such.
If u import tubes, sometimes customs can get nasty & classify under 'bulb' then u get heavy tax. Worst, if u import transformer or any sorts, u need AP.
Audionote Singapore has always been polite & easy to deal. Not pushy & going for the hard sell.
Just met Ray Ng of raindrop audio. Computer audio related items like Amarra software from Sonic Studio & single driver speakers like Omega
Reference Audio also into computer audio with Weiss fire wire DAC & Stella USB to SPIF convertor.
Regards,
Joe Ling

Yup, As many frequent traveller will claim power cords as for computer application so No TAX.
My recent trip found that if we travel with family member from kids to elders our boleh fellow at the border do not even stop us for checking & ask us thru (2nd Link, 5.30pm Monday)
Some frequent traveller told at certain hours they dont normally check due to heavy traffic flow..
Another method is request for under value resit for your equipment i believe most of them understand & willing to help.

Ahem, Tax evasion is against the law. Tax avoidance on the other hand is legal.
If u declare as "PC parts", no tax.

To be precise, 15% + 10%.
So, it will be approx. 26.5%.

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
The Hi Fi shop are mostly situated at SIM LIM Tower but then there are Dozens
and Dozens more scattered all around. For a Good Bargain (especially used items), browse through the google Web : echoloft (buy / sell)
Price was below 40 % of the new Item and only used between 2 to 3
years. Tax is around 15 % but that also depend on our Custom Officer at the
Entry Point. Sometime, when you tell them it is a 2nd Hand Set, they take a
look and charge you a nominal fee.....or they just let you go through........
After all, if any Telltale Scratch mark.....it is a proof of used item

I had not seen any hi fi shop at all in Sim Lim Tower having live here for nearly 30 years, but there are a few diagonally across at Sim Lim Square.

You are welcome. Just wondering if you guys when buying over here in Singapore do get the 7% Goods and Services Tax rebate? Maybe if the receipt show a 7% GST paid, then should get the refund when you leave the city state.

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Singapore
Yes, there is a special Refund Counter at Changi Airport for the GST Refund.
But as I normally buy 2nd Hand Gears direct from Individual, ofcourse there is no refund. I just came back Two months ago meeting a seller to buy his Vintage Amp. He is staying at Bukit Panjang HDB Flat.
I surf echoloft Singapore (buy/sell) every 2 days but will go to view
and buy the item personally. The price of 2nd Hand Hi Fi items in the Shop is
also priced very reasonable.

No, not the fellow you mentioned.
This one is Mr Toh, a former Servicemen with the Singapore Armed Forces.
He has many Vintage Amps inside his Flat and he has a BA-5000 Power Amp.
