After stress, sure needs those K-power to boost the rest of the day...
But buying the K-power will require a heavy initial investment.
Way way more than Viagra and Stimulants...

andrelly ... come on, man, get your mac back in the game!
Oh yeah, i've heard the Prometheus in action... very good bang for buck. Super transparent and detailed.
HOWEVER, I just could not bring myself to use one ..... and also i'm a remote junkie as well. I just NEEDED my pre-amp to have some LED glow, and the convenience of a remote coz i jut loooooove pressing buttons ... sort of like The Curious Case of... .
For example: who else do you know in BolehLand that actually has a Krell Universal remote besides yours truly?
Its got the full Krell freqs, and then I put the CD player control freqs into it , heck i even cloned my Apple Remote into the Krell remote, so i can "control" my MacbookPro with a Krell remote (ohh baby!) !

You may think you're a peasant but I assure you the Bass Raptor is not really a raptor. So I don't think he will hunt you down and make raptor poo on your lesser Hifi. No need to go hide your stuff elsewhere. Be proud of what you have and count your blessings.

Anyway, I admire what he has and had before..
Fuh yoh.. K-power really not easy to acquire eh??
I had better work harder to find more money...

Early 90s if i remember correctly. The era when Adrian was still in
the SS2 "half shop". Same row at the old Tat Chuan Audio & HOME
Video Rental.
A true revolution in Class-A amplification where u can have your cake
and eat it too. Sustained Plateau Biasing with an ultra-fast acting
"Anticipator Circuit" that monitors the input signal's levels, and
ramps up the bias point based on the detected input magnitude. Biases
down when the input signal's amplitude gets small.
Fast forward 15+ years and only Gryphon today has something similar
called "Green Bias" but this only works if u use both a Gryphon Pre &
power amp of the same series.

The very first implementation of SPB was in the KSA-xxxS series.
Then SPB-II in the FPB, FPB-C series (C = CAST connections) , KAS & KAS2 flagship amps. Then SPB-III in the MRA & FPB x series.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
many audiophiles are of the view that the newer krell amps do not sound as good as the older ones. during the recent kl international av show, there was a room with big krells driving the atc scm50s. the room was empty when i was there. however, at the room with simaudio amps driving the german physiks, it was standing room only. what does that tell you? just my 2 sen worth...
Re: Krell - discussion thread
I remember how hushed a room filled with audiophiles could get in the past, when someone mentioned Krell. These days, the name doesn't seem to invoke as much awe ....
"Good" is relative. I'm sure Krell still sells many amps ... but perhaps not as much to hardcore audiophiles anymore.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
I think it is not fair to judge the sonic quality of a hifi system by how filled or empty the room is. As explained, I have helped mann KLAVS rooms before (that time was simply called HiFi show, I think run by either the STAR or the SUN). It's all a matter of timing. Even on the busiest of days, there can be short occasions where the room is practically empty. Then there are lots of occasions where the room is practially bursting with people even on Friday. It can just simply be due to timing.
Having said that, my personal opinion is also that many of today's hifi component have had their tonal quality tailored to match the expectations of the modern generation of buyers. This is NOT to disparage them, or to try to attempt to insinuate that one generation has better ears than others. But it is simply the result of 'progress', something we have to accept. The fact is that the proportion of people who listen to music is a lot higher nowadays. And they start very young. Unfortunately, they also tend to be dominated by walkmans, iPODs, and computer multimedia speakers, often played via the frequency restricted MP3 format. Later they get to own a car. Many usually start off with Proton or Perodua. Then the car's stereo system becomes the standard by which they judge sonic quality. When people who are weaned on this sort of sound quality progressed to buy a proper hifi system, their expectations can often be already set. So those components with similar tonal quality (again, not meant to offend anybody but they are usually bright, hard and harsh) tends to be more successful. They can, and have often been tuned to sound more lifelike but right out of the box, they will sound much like more expensive, computer type speakers.
I first formed this opinion when I helped my friend audition for speakers for his new home. We listend to the new Thiel CS5 and it sounded like that. This was the speaker which prompted his wife to strongly object to having in her new house because it makes her 'man-chang' (irritated) and she feels like slapping someone after listening to a few songs. This does not mean Thiel makes duds because at my suggestion, they swapped a pair of (used) CS7 into the system and both my friend and his wife were almost instantly sold. Years of visiting the KLAVS also tend to lend support for this opinion.
Of course in the end, it's all just simply my own personal opinion lar.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
Wong KN has a point. near the entrance of the show, there was a philips booth manned by some pretty gals. there were three sets of headphones connected to three mp3 players and the listener had to pick the best-sounding one. i did not like the left one and it was a toss between the centre and the right player. the right player was initially impressive, but after a while it sounded bright. the centre player sounded richer and mellower. i opted for the centre player which turned out to be a philips. the right player was the iPod. i can't recall the brand of the left player. the iPod generation may seem to prefer brighter sounding players...
but there is hope yet....when i met adrian at audio image to hear his soulution pre/power amp, he said young hi fi fans have been turning up at his shop. i was pleasantly surprised. so maybe the iPod generation may grow up and mature and buy high-end gear like krell, mcintosh, ML, vitus, fm acoustics and soulution...

speaking of Soulution ... wasn't there a soulution thread that maybe got deleted or something ?
Can't seem to find it! ... did that thread become rancid and offensive or something similar?

Soulution products are quite interesting. Please feel free to start a topic about it.
Re: Krell - discussion thread
ok ... now back to Krells ....
i know of a FPB-200 that is in need of a good home.
Once i saw a KRC-2 at Amcorp mall .. but didnt manage to grab it in time and it was going for less than 5K . aduh !
Thats the thing about s/hand stuff ... its all about timing. And what more about Krells in the s/hand market.

Re: Krell - discussion thread
The thing is, you don't know in what condition the thing is going to be ... i had a friend who thought he had a great bargain when he got a used McCormack power amp. It blew up after a few months, and it's been more than a year, he still hasn't managed to get it repaired. I'm sure he's reading this ...
Re: Krell - discussion thread
hahahahahah true true ..... thats the risk we take by buying s/hand.
Esp from a forum like this one also.
And thats why buying from a trusted shop is also VERY IMPORTANT.

Some good old models have no more new units / stock left and therefore, the only chance to grab one is by aiming at s/hand market.. really no other way...

Re: Krell - discussion thread
thats the problem with manufacturers making consumer goods in general. Typical product lifecycle has shrunk from years to months.
This is also due to the main influence of the PC & Silicon electronics era.
Look at today's iPod lifecycle compared to a Nakamichi Dragon tape deck from yesteryear. The price of evergreen would be the Linn Sondek. Of course, the all time grandmaster of champion product lifecycle has to be the VW Beetle (the original, air-cooled rear wheel drive version. Not the modern front engine, FWD crap).
Now back to Krells. Even their product lifecycles have shortened since th days of the KSA amps. I wonder how long the s300i would be in market before Krell comes up with a replacement and hopefully back to being Made in the USA (by illegal immigrants also can lah) then.
But every manufacturer does what they think is essential to their survival and Krell is still around becoz they moved fast enough into the AV scene when hi-fi was almost kaput coz everyone went AV as a convinient all-in-one system.
But now there seems to be a resurgent of 2-channel systems globally, and even LPs seem to be seeing some kind of revival given the likes of newer turntable brands like Vyger, Kuzma and some former Soviet bloc countries manufacturing precision TTs.

KS-L is good, but not so popular coz for one thing, its quite old already and secondly, in the age of couch-potato entertainment, it lacks a remote control.
Thats where the KRC-series came to the rescue.

Sorry, wasn't meaning to 'challenge' you. Just that your 'very loud' post reminded me of the amusing story of my 'legendary' friend, the only one in my group who have been able to actually fuse one of the bass driver of his Thiel CS7 by over-driving it with his Krell FBP600 (If you have seen and heard the Thiel CS7, you will know how much of a feat this is)....
